PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL

Effective: June 14, 2005

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: PowMaxTM battery chargers sold with certain RazorTM battery-powered scooters and ride-on vehicles
Units:  About 584,000

Computer Manufacturer:

Razor USA LLC, of Cerritos, California.
Importer: Leadman Electronic Co., Ltd. of China
Hazard: The battery charger can overheat and cause minor burns when touched. Also, nearby items can become damaged by the hot chargers.
Incidents/Injuries: Razor USA has received 144 reports of battery chargers overheating. There have been no reports of injuries and six reports of minor property damage, such as a melted spot on a linoleum floor.
Description:

The recall involves PowMax battery chargers distributed with Razor battery-powered scooters and ride-on vehicles.

The name "PowMax" appears prominently on the face of the battery charger unit. The vehicles that were sold with the recalled chargers include

RazorTM Electric Scooters (Models E100, E125, E300, E300S, E200, and E200S),

Razor Pocket RocketTM mini electric motorcycles,

Razor Ground ForceTM electric go karts, and

Razor Chopper mini electric motorcycles.

Sold at: Discount department, auto parts and toy stores nationwide from October 2003 through May 2005 for between $130 and $250, depending on the model.
Made in: China.
Remedy: Consumers should stop using the battery charger and contact Razor for a free replacement. Razor model E300, E300S, E200, and E200S scooters will be repaired as part of another recall announced today.
