The
Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC)
will honor 14 women business owners, during its eighth
annual Salute to Women's Business Enterprises: The
Enterprising Economy. The Salute is WBENC's annual
black-tie fundraiser held this year during Women's
History month on Wednesday, March 23 in Washington, DC
at the National Building Museum.
WBENC is the nation's
largest and most-widely recognized third-part certifier
of women-owned businesses. It has grown
significantly since its inception in 1997, increasing
from 11 to 175 corporate members, from four to 14
women's business organization partners (WBOPs) and from
500 to more than 5,000 certified women's business
enterprises.
Each year WBENC and its
WBOPs select 14 Women-owned Business Stars, one
representing each partner organization. The
"Business Stars" are selected based on their leadership
in their local business community, their unique ability
to inspire other women business owners and their success
in directing a successful WBENC-certified business.
Susan Bari,
President of WBENC, comments, "Women business owners
play a huge and growing role in the U.S. economy, and
the Salute gives us a chance to honor these women's
business enterprises, not just for their own
accomplishments, but as symbols of the millions of
successful women-owned businesses around the country.
WBENC believes that all corporations can benefit from
working with women business owners, and vice versa.
The Salute is a great time to come together to
celebrate, to network, to connect, and reinforce
relationships that lead to increased opportunities."
More than 800 guests are
expected to attend the black-tie Salute and anniversary
celebration at the prestigious National Building Museum.
