Press Release
There's
still plenty of time left for summer family reunions,
which are often major events within the
African American community. With more
than one-fourth of the African American
adult population expected to attend a family
reunion this summer,
General Motors has
launched an aggressive campaign to encourage
African American families to have their cars
serviced before hitting the highways.
GM Goodwrench,
the service brand for GM vehicles, and
one of the largest automotive service brands
with over 7,000 locations, is reaching out to
the African-American population with messages on
the importance of car care prior to taking any
reunion road trips.
According to the Travel Industry Association
of America, there will be an estimated
175,000 African-American reunions in the U.S.
this year. With so many reunion-goers traveling
by car – 34 percent travel 150 to 499 miles one
way from home to attend a reunion, while another
32 percent travel under 150 miles – GM
Goodwrench wants to increase awareness in the
African-American community on its service
expertise.
GM Goodwrench is promoting car care tips to the
African-American community through several
venues, including African-American oriented web
sites and print publications. GM Goodwrench’s
own web site, www.goodwrench.com, contains
helpful information and a link to a dedicated
page, featuring a vacation checklist.
“Reunions are an important part of the fabric of
the African-American family,” said Duane
Miller, executive director, GM Service and
Parts Operations. “They’re about reconnecting to
enjoy each other’s company with love, laughter
and fun. We want our families to be safe and
secure on the road, and that begins with proper
care and maintenance to ensure their vehicle is
performing at its best. GM Goodwrench dealers
have the expertise, knowledge and technology to
make sure GM vehicles are properly cared for
with maintenance that can prevent problems down
the road.”
While some mechanical failures are unavoidable,
many can be traced to poor maintenance and often
can be easily prevented. The U.S. Department
of Transportation reports the leading cause
of mechanical breakdown on our nation’s highways
is overheating – an easily avoidable condition.
Low coolant, worn or loose belts and defective
hoses – common causes of breakdown – can be
simple for a certified technician to detect and
correct.
GM Goodwrench technicians across the country
offer Chevy, Buick, Pontiac,
GMC, Cadillac and HUMMER
vehicle owners quality maintenance for their GM
vehicle.
They receive specialized training from General
Motors to provide expert care for GM cars and
trucks. They also use genuine GM replacement
parts, which are manufactured to the exact
specifications of the GM vehicle. For more
information, visit the GM Goodwrench
web site at
