Gala and Selects Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. as its Corporation of the
Year
About GMSDC
GMSDC is a regional
affiliate member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC).
Before becoming a regional affiliate, the council was called the Atlanta
Regional Minority Purchasing Council. It was formed in 1976 as a joint
effort between several organizations, namely, the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Interracial Council of
Business Opportunity, Atlanta Business League, and Atlanta Trade and
Contractors Association.
The council, which now
serves corporations and minority businesses throughout the state of
Georgia, is an independently incorporated not-for-profit corporation. A
key part of GMSDC's mission is to help prepare and position minority
businesses to compete for contracts with major corporations and government
agencies. The Council also educates corporations about the
economic benefits of using minority suppliers.
Corporate membership is limited to
corporations that are dually committed to purchasing goods and services from minority suppliers, and
to providing a fair and impartial procurement environment. Corporations
interested in becoming members are allowed to attend up to three
council meetings without any obligation. Minority-owned businesses
must meet the council's Standards of Qualifications, which are designed to
ensure the minority ownership and management of such firms.
