Marine Dies from Non-Hostile Incident
Lance Cpl. Matthew G. Reza, 27, of Austin,
Texas, was killed May 31 as a result of a
non-hostile incident in Khandahar Province,
Afghanistan. Reza was assigned to Marine
Aviation Logistics Squadron 31, Marine
Aircraft Group 31, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing,
Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South
Carolina.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Incident

Spc. Marko M. Samson, 30, of Columbus, Ohio,
died May 31 in Tikrit, Iraq, of injuries
suffered from a non-combat related
incident. Samson was a motor transport
operator assigned to the 277th
Aviation Support Battalion, 10th Combat
Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division
(Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York. He
joined the Army in March 2007 and
trained at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and Ft.
Leonard Wood, Missouri, before being
assigned to Ft. Drum in August 2007.
Samson's awards and decorations include
the Army Commendation Medal, the
National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq
Campaign Medal with Combat Service, the
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
and Army Service Ribbon. Samson is
survived by his mother, father and

Two Soldier Killed in Vehicle-Rollover Incident
Pfc. Samuel D. Stone, 20, of Port Orchard,
Washington, died May 30 in Tallil, Iraq, of
injuries suffered during a non-combat
related vehicle roll-over. Stone was
assigned to the 1st Squadron, 303rd Cavalry
Regiment, Bremerton, Washington.

Soldier Killed in Mosul by IED

Pvt. Thomas E. Lee, III, 20, of Dalton,
Georgia, died May 29 in Mosul, Iraq, of
wounds suffered when an explosive device
struck his vehicle. Lee was assigned to 3rd
Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade
Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort
Hood, Texas.
Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related
Incident
Pvt. Bradley W. Iorio, 19, of Galloway, New
Jersey, died May 29 at Landstuhl Regional
Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of
injuries suffered from a non-combat related
incident May 27 in Tallil, Iraq. Iorio was
assigned to the Special Troops Battalion,
4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored
Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

PA Guard Member Killed in Baghdad by IED

Spc. Chad A. Edmundson, 20, of
Williamsburg, Pennsylvania, died May 27 in Baghdad of
wounds suffered when an improvised explosive
device detonated near his unit while on a
dismounted patrol. Edmundson was assigned
to the 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry, 56th
Stryker Brigade, Pennsylvania Army National
Guard.

Two Airmen Killed by IED
Two airman died May 26 near Bagram Air
Field, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained from
an improvised explosive device. Killed
were:
Lt. Col. Mark E.
Stratton II, 39, of Houston,
Texas. Stratton was assigned to the Joint
Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Senior Airman Ashton
L. M. Goodman, 21, of
Indianapolis. She was assigned to the 43rd
Logistics Readiness Squadron, Pope Air Force
Base, North Carolina.

Two Soldiers Killed in Convoy Attacks
Two
members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
died May 25 from injuries resulting from an
improvised explosive device attack on their
convoy. Killed were:
Maged M. Hussein,
43, of Cairo, Egypt, died May 25 in Al
Taqaddum, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an
improvised explosive device detonated near
his convoy vehicle in Fallujah, Iraq.
Hussein was employed by the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers, Jacksonville District,
Jacksonville, Florida.
Cmdr. Duane G. Wolfe,
54, of Port Hueneme, California, died May 25
from injuries suffered as a result of an
improvised explosive device attack on his
convoy southeast of Fallujah. Wolfe was
assigned to the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers' Gulf Region Division in Iraq. |

Soldier Killed in Downed Helicopter

Chief Warrant Officer
(3) Brent S. Cole, 38, of
Reedsville, West Virginia, died May 22, when
his helicopter went down in Tarin Kwot,
Afghanistan. Cole was assigned to the 1st
Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade,
82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North
Carolina.

Soldier Dies in Non-Combat Related Incident
Sgt. 1st Class Brian
Naseman, 36, of New Bremen, Ohio,
died May 22 in Taji, Iraq of a non-combat
related incident. Naseman was assigned to the
108th Forward Support Company, attached to 2nd
Battalion, 127th Infantry, 32nd Infantry Brigade
Combat Team, Sussex, Wisconsin. |

IED Kills Three Soldiers on Dismounted
Patrol
Three
soldiers died May 21 near Baghdad, Iraq of
wounds sustained when their unit was
attacked by enemy forces using improvise
explosive devices while on dismounted
patrol. Killed were:
Two members of the 252nd Combined Arms
Battalion, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
They were:
Major Jason E. George,
38, of Tehachapi, California, an Army
Reservist.
First Lieutenant Leevi
K. Barnard, 28, of Mount Airy,
North Carolina, a National Guardsman.
The third solder was:
Sgt. Paul F. Brooks,
34, of Joplin, Missouri, a National
Guardsman assigned to the 935th Aviation
Support Battalion, Springfield, Missouri.

Airman Killed by IED Near Kabul
1st Lt. Roslyn L.
Schulte, 25, of St. Louis,
Missouri, died May 20 near Kabul,
Afghanistan of wounds suffered from an
improvised explosive device. Schulte was
assigned to the Headquarters, Pacific Air
Forces Command, Hickam Air Force Base,
Hawaii.

Two Soldiers Killed in Mosul
Two
members of the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry
Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st
Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, died May
2 from wounds sustained after they were shot
by enemy forces in Mosul, Iraq. Killed were:

Enemy Fire Claims Two
Soldiers
Two
soldiers died May 1 of wounds suffered when
insurgents attacked their unit using direct
fire. The attack occurred near the village
of Nishagam, in Konar Province, Afghanistan.
Killed were:

Spec. Ryan C. King,
22, of Dallas, Georgia. King was assigned to
the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade
Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort
Hood, Texas.
Sgt. James D. Pirtle,
21, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pirtle
was assigned to the Special Troops
Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st
Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; and
The whereabouts of one
other soldier involved in the attack is
unknown.
