KY Guard Member Killed in Enemy Attack

Sgt. Daniel W. Wallace, 27, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, died October 31 in Badin Kheyl, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire. Wallace was assigned to the 201st Engineer Battalion, Kentucky Army National Guard in Cynthiana, Kentucky.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Incident

Pfc. Bradley S. Coleman, 24, of Martinsville, Virginia, died October 29 at Qayyarah Airfield, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Coleman was assigned to the 51st Transportation Company, Mannheim, Germany.


Soldier Dies in Balad from Non-Combat Related Incident

Sgt. Scott J. Metcalf, 36, of Framingham, Massachusetts, died October 29, in Balad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Metcalf was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Marine Killed in Combat in Helmand Province

1st Lt. Trevor J. Yurista, 32, of Pleasant Valley, New York, died October 27 while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Yurista was assigned to 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Two Soldiers Killed by Suicide Bomber

Two soldiers died October 27 in Baghlan, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when a suicide bomber detonated explosives as they were preparing to enter a building.

Killed were:

Sgt. Nicholas A. Casey, 22, of Canton, Ohio, who was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Sgt. Kevin D. Grieco, 35, of Bartlett, Illinois, who was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery, Illinois Army National Guard, Sycamore, Illinois.

Soldier Dies from Wounds Received in Baqubah

Pfc. Cody J. Eggleston, 21, of Eugene, Oregon, died October 24 at the National in Bethesda, Maryland, of wounds suffered on October 16 in Baqubah, Iraq, when he received indirect fire.  Eggleston was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Airman Dies from Non-Combat Related Medical Causes

Staff Sgt. Brian P. Hause, 29, of Stoystown, Pennsylvania, died October 23 of non-combat related medical causes at Balad Air Base, Iraq. Hause was assigned to the 20th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.

Two Marines Killed in Helmand Province

Two Marines died October 22 while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.  Killed were:

Cpl. Adrian Robles, 21, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska,  Robles was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Lance Cpl. San Sim, 23, of Santa Ana, California, died October 22 while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Sim was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

NY Guard Member Killed by IED

Spc. Deon L. Taylor, 30, of Bronx, New York, died October 22 in Bela Beluk, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Taylor was assigned to the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, New York Army National Guard, Syracuse, New York.

Rocket-Propelled Grenade Kills Soldier

Capt. Robert D. Lindenau, 39, of Camano Island, Washington, died October 20 in Charbagh, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle. Lindenau was assigned to the 91st Civil Affairs Battalion, 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as a civil affairs team leader with the 91st CA Bn. Lindenau is survived by his wife, and their four children. Lance Cpl. Stacy A. Dryden, 22, of North Canton, Ohio, died October 19 from injuries sustained in a non-hostile incident in Anbar Province, Iraq. Dryden was assigned to 1st Supply Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, California.

Soldier Killed While on Patrol

Sgt. Federico G. Borjas, 33, of San Diego, California, died October 16 in Bermel District Center, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered from small arms fire during a dismounted patrol. Borjas was assigned to 416th Civil Affairs Battalion, 351st Civil Affairs Command, San Diego, California.


Enemy Fire Claims Soldier in Karangol Village

Sgt. John M. Penich, 25, of Beach Park, Illinois, died October 16 in Karangol Village, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered from indirect fire. Penich was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Enemy Fire Claims Soldier in Balad

Pfc. Heath K. Pickard, 21, of Palestine, Texas, died October 16 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when he received indirect fire in Baquaba, Iraq. Pickard was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Three members of the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas died October 14 in Qazi Bandeh, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Killed were:

Pfc. Christopher A. McCraw, 23, of Columbia, Mississippi, died October 14 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when he encountered small arms fire while on dismounted patrol in Nasar Wa Salam. McCraw was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Enemy Action Claims NH Guard Member

Pfc. Scott G. Dimond, 39, of Franklin, New Hampshire, died October 13 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle struck an IED and his patrol was engaged in a small arms fire attack. Dimond was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain), New Hampshire Army National Guard, Milford, New Hampshire.

Fernandez was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Clark was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

Col. Michael R. Stahlman, 45, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, died October 5 from injuries sustained in a July 31 non-hostile incident in Anbar Province, Iraq. Stahlman was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California.

Enemy Fire Claims Soldier in Mosul

Sgt. William P. Rudd, 27, of Madisonville, Kentucky, died October 5 of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire while on a combat patrol in Mosul, Iraq. Rudd was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia.

NY Guard Member Fatally Injured in Vehicle Incident

Spc. Jason E. von Zerneck, 33, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on October 2 of injuries sustained from a vehicle incident in Qara Bagh Karez, Afghanistan. Von Zerneck was assigned to the 2d Squadron, 101st Cavalry Regiment, New York Army National Guard, Jamestown, New York.

IED Claims Soldier in Majar al Kabir

Pfc. Tavarus D. Setzler, 23, of Jacksonville, Florida, died October 2 of wounds sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Majar al Kabir, Iraq. Setzler was assigned to the 2d Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. 


Enemy Action Claims Soldier in Baghdad  

Pfc. Christopher A. Bartkiewicz, 25, of Dunfermline, Illinois, died September 30 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his dismounted patrol using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.
