IED Blast Kills Soldier in Baghdad

Sgt. Dayne D. Dhanoolal, 26, of Brooklyn, died March 31 in Baghdad, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Dhanoolal was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia.

LA Guard Member Killed by IED in Baghdad

Sgt. Terrell W. Gilmore, 38, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, died March 30 in Baghdad, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Gilmore was assigned to the 769th Engineer Battalion of the Louisiana Army National Guard in Baton Rouge.

Marine Killed in Al Anbar Province

Maj. William G. Hall, 38 of Seattle, died March 30 from wounds he suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, on March 29.  Hall was assigned to 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group 38, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Soldier Dies from Injuries Received in Abu Jassim

 

Sgt. Jevon K. Jordan, 32, of Norfolk, Virginia, died March 29 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany, from wounds suffered March 23 in Abu Jassim, Iraq, when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive.  Jordan was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.


Enemy Attack Claims Two Soldiers in Baghdad

Two members of the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas died March 29 in Baghdad from wounds suffered when they encountered an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. Killed were:

Spc. Durrell L. Bennett, 22, of Spanaway, Washington.  Bennett was an infantryman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. His home of record is Spanaway, Washington. He entered the Army in August 2005; and began serving with the 1st Infantry Division in December 2005. This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism. 

Pfc. Patrick J. Miller, 23, of New Port Richey, Florida. Miller was an infantryman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. His home of record is New Port Richey, Fla. He entered the Army in March 2007. He began serving with the 1st Inf. Div. in July 2007. This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.


The armed forces medical examiner confirmed on March 29, human remains recovered in Iraq were those of Staff Sgt. Keith M. Maupin, 24, of Batavia, Ohio. Maupin had been listed as missing-captured since April 16, 2004.  His convoy came under attack by individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire on April 9, 2004. He was assigned to the 724th Transportation Company, Bartonville, Illinois.

Spc. Charles A. Jankowski, 24, of Panama City, Florida, died March 28, in Arab Jabour, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Jankowski was assigned to the 3rd Brigade Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Spc. Joshua A. Molina, 20, of Houston, Texas, died March 27 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Molina was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Taji

Spc. Gregory B. Rundell, 21, of Ramsey, Minnesota, died March 26 in Taji Iraq, of wounds suffered from small arms fire. Rundell was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.


Grenade Kills Soldier in Baghdad

Cpl. Steven I. Candelo, 20, of Houston, died March 26 in Baghdad, when his vehicle was struck by a rocket propelled grenade. Candelo was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Staff Sgt. Joseph D. Gamboa, 34, of Yigo, Guam, died March 25 of wounds suffered when he came under indirect fire in Baghdad, Iraq. Gamboa was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Staff Sgt. William R. Neil, Jr., 38, of Holmden, New Jersey, died in Sperwan Ghar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Neil was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Four Soldiers Killed by IED in Baghdad

Four members of the 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia died March 24 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive on March 23. Killed were:

Pvt. George Delgado, 21, of Palmdale, California.

Pfc. Andrew J. Habsieger, 22, of Festus, Missouri.

Staff Sgt. Christopher M. Hake, 26, of Enid, Oklahoma.

Spc. Jose A. Rubio Hernandez, 24, of Mission, Texas.

Three members of the 1132nd Military Police Company, North Carolina Army National Guard, Rocky Mount, North Carolina died March 22 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Killed were:

Pfc. Antione V. Robinson, 20, of Detroit, Michigan, died March 19 in Nawa, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when the vehicle he was repairing collapsed. Robinson was assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Soldier Killed in Vehicle Accident in Mandali

Sgt. Gregory D. Unruh, 28, of Dickinson, Texas, died March 19 in Mandali, Iraq, of injuries suffered in a vehicle accident. Unruh was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Two Soldier Killed in Baghdad by IED

Two members of the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado died March 17 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device during combat operations. Killed were:

Staff Sgt. Michael D. Elledge, 41, of Brownsburg, Indiana.

Spc. Christopher C. Simpson, 23, of Hampton, Virginia.

Spc. William D. O'Brien, 19, of Rice, Texas, died March 15 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered when he was attacked by small arms fire during combat operations.  O'Brien was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

MS Guard Member Killed in Balad

Spc. Lerando J. Brown, 27, of Gulfport, Mississippi, died March 15 in Balad, Iraq, from injuries suffered in an incident currently under investigation. Brown was assigned to the 288th Sapper Company, 223rd Engineer Battalion, Mississippi Army National Guard, Houston, Mississippi.

MD Guard Member Succumbs to Injuries

Staff Sgt. Collin J. Bowen, 38, of Millersville, Maryland died March 14 at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, of wounds suffered January 2 in Khowst Province, Afghanistan, when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.  Bowen was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment, Maryland Army National Guard, Towson, Maryland.

IED Claims Three Soldiers in Tallil

Three soldiers died March 12 in Tallil, Iraq, of wounds suffered when their vehicle was hit by indirect fire. Killed were:

Two members of the 7th Special Troops Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Eustis, Virginia.  They were:

Staff Sgt. Juantrea T. Bradley, 28, of Greenville, North Carolina. Bradley, 28, was a cargo specialist who joined the Army in February 2002. After completing basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Bradley accepted his first assignment with the 23rd Ordnance Company in Germany. In November 2001, he was reassigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia. Bradley was reassigned to Fort Eustis in March 2004 where he served with the 149th Transportation Company and 155th Transportation Company. He joined the 7th Sustainment Brigade in June 2007. He served in Kuwait from February to August 2002; and then in Iraq from January to July 2003. His numerous awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, to name a few.  Bradley is survived by his wife and four children. Pfc. Tenzin L. Samten, 33, of Prescott, Arizona. Samten, 33, was a motor transport operator. He enlisted in the Army in July 2006 and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  Samten was assigned to the 7th Sustainment Brigade in May 2007.  His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal. Also killed in the incident was

Spc. Dustin C. Jackson, 21, of Arlington, Texas, who was assigned to the 350th Adjutant General Company, Grand Prairie, Texas.

Four Soldiers Killed by Suicide Bomber

Three members of the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia died March 10 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device. Killed were:
