IED Injuries Received in August Claim Soldier

Spc. Kevin S. Mowl, 22, of Pittsford, New York, died February 25 at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, of wounds suffered in Baghdad, Iraq on August 2, 2007, when the vehicle he was in encountered an improvised explosive device.  Mowl was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis Washington.

Soldier Killed by IED in Baghdad

Spc. Micheal E. Phillips, 19, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, died February 24 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.  Phillips was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.


Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Spc. Orlando A. Perez, 23, of Houston, died February 24 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from small arms fire during dismounted operations. Perez was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Cause

Spc. Keisha M. Morgan, 25, of Washington, D.C., died February 22 in Baghdad, Iraq, of a non-combat related cause. Morgan was assigned to the Division Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Fighting Claims Marine in Al Anbar Province

Lance Cpl. Drew W. Weaver, 20, of St. Charles, Missouri, died February 21 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Weaver was assigned to 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Two Soldiers Killed by Enemy Fire

Three members of the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky died February 20 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device in Baghdad on February 19. Killed were:

Sgt. Conrad Alvarez, 22, of Big Spring, Texas.

Cpl. Albert Bitton, 20, of Chicago, Illinois.

Spc. Micheal B. Matlock, Jr., 21, of Glen Burnie, Maryland.


Soldiers Killed by Enemy Fire in Mosul

Staff Sgt. Bryant W. Mackey, 30, of Eureka, Kansas, died February 20 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle.  Mackey was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.


IED Claims Soldier in Busayefi

Capt. Nathan R. Raudenbush, 25, of Pennsylvania, died February 20 in Busayefi, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Raudenbush was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Two Soldiers Killed by Enemy Fire

Two members of the 2nd Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington, died February 17 in Diyala Province, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their dismounted patrol using small arms fire. Killed were:

Spc. Luke S. Runyan, 21, of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania.

Soldier Dies in Vehicle Accident

Staff Sgt. Javares J. Washington, 27, of Pensacola, Florida, died February 11 at Camp Buehring in Kuwait City, Kuwait, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. Washington was assigned to the 6th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Sgt. Corey E. Spates, 21, of LaGrange, Georgia, died February 10 in Diyala Province, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Spates was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

Four Soldiers Killed by IED in Taji

Four members of the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, died February 8 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Killed were:

Three members of the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  They were:

   

Spc. Michael T. Manibog, 31, of Alameda, California.

Staff Sgt. Jerald A. Whisenhunt, 32, of Orrick, Missouri.

Sgt. Gary D. Willett, 34, of Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Also killed in the incident was

Sgt. Timothy P. Martin, 27, of Pixley, California, who was assigned to 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.


IED Blast Claims Soldier in Jawwalah

Pfc. Jack T. Sweet, 19, of Alexandria Bay, New York, died February 8 in Jawwalah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Sweet was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York. Sweet entered the Army in April 2007 and completed basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia.  He was assigned to Fort Drum in August 2007.  In November 2007, Sweet deployed with his unit to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.  His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Sweet is survived by his father and mother.

Petty Officer 1st class Luis A. Souffront, 25, of Miami, Florida, died February 7, from wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device while serving in combat operations in Iraq. Souffront was assigned to an East Coast based SEAL team.

Soldier Killed by IED

Staff Sgt. Donald T. Tabb, 29, of Norcross, Georgia, died February 5 in Sangin, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. Tabb was assigned to the 6th Military Police Detachment, 1st Battalion, 13th Aviation Regiment, Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Incident

Sgt. Rafael Alicearivera, 30, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, died February 5 in Tallil, Iraq, of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident. Alicearivera was assigned to the 307th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


Three Soldiers Killed by IED in Mugdadiyah

Three soldiers died February 5 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered in Al Muqdadiyah when they encountered an improvised explosive device during combat operations. Killed were:

Two members of the 82nd Airborne Division.  They were:

Spc. Miguel A. Baez, 32, of Bonaire, Georgia, who was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Sgt. John C. Osmolski, 23, of Eustis, Florida, who was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Also killed was:

Sgt. Timothy R. Van Orman, 24, of Port Matilda, Pennsylvania, who was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York.

IED Claims Soldier in Mugdadiyah

Spc. Christopher J. West, 26, of Arlington, Texas, died February 4 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered on February 3 in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated during combat operations. West was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Two Navy SEALS Killed by Enemy Fire

Two members of the Navy SEALS died February 4, from wounds suffered from small arms fire during combat operations in Iraq. Killed were:

Chief Petty Officer Nathan H. Hardy, 29, of Durham, New Hampshire

Chief Petty Officer Michael E. Koch, 29, of State College, Pennsylvania.

Soldier Dies in Mosul following a Non-Combat Incident

Staff Sgt. Chad A. Barrett, 35, of Saltville, Virginia, died February 2 in Mosul, Iraq, as a result of a non-combat related incident.  Barrett was assigned to the 64th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.
