Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

MO Guard Member Killed in Baghdad
Spc. Matthew F. Straughter,
27, of St. Charles, Missouri, died January 31 in
Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his
vehicle was struck by a rocket propelled
grenade. Straughter was assigned to the 1138th
Engineer Company, 35th Engineer Brigade,

Minn., died January 26 in FOB Fenty,
Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from small

friendly fire. Afghan guard (ally) possibly
mistook the soldier as an enemy combatant and
engaged with small arms fire. Incident is under
investigation. Kahler was assigned to the 2nd
Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne),
173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza,
Italy. |

Wilson, 28, of Boynton Beach,
Florida, died January 26 of wounds suffered when
an improvised explosive device detonated while
he was conducting a dismounted patrol in

Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade

Robert J. Miller, 24, of Iowa
City, Iowa, died January 25 in Barikowt,
Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he
encountered small arms fire while
conducting combat operations. At
the time of the attack, Miller was was
protecting his Operational Detachment
Alpha teammates during combat operations
near the village of Barikowt, Nari
District, Konar Province, Afghanistan.
Miller was assigned to the 3rd
Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group
(Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Miller is survived by his parents, his
three brothers, and his four sisters,
all from Oviedo, Florida. |

Pfc. Duncan Charles
Crookston, 19, of Denver, Colorado,
died January 25 in Brooke Army Medical Center,
Fort Sam Houston, Texas, of wounds suffered when
an improvised explosive device detonated near
his vehicle during combat operations in Baghdad,
Iraq. Crookston was assigned to the 2nd
Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade
Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley,
Kansas.
Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Injuries

Sgt. Tracy Renee Birkman,
41, of New Castle, Virginia, died January 25 in
Owesat, Iraq, from non-combat related injuries.
Brikman was assigned to the 626th Brigade
