Sgt. Zachary D. Tellier, 31, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died September 29 at Firebase Wilderness, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire.  Tellier was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Spc. Chirasak Vidhyarkorn, 32, of Queens, New York, died September 29 in Diwanihay, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Vidhyarkorn was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 142nd Field Artillery Regiment, Camp Shelby, Mississippi.


Solider Killed by Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Sgt. Robert T. Ayres III, 23, of Los Angeles, California, died September 29 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire.  Ayres was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.


Soldier Falls to Enemy Small Fire in Baloor

Staff Sgt. Donnie D. Dixon, 37, of Miami, Florida, died September 29 in Baloor, Iraq of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire.  Dixon was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


IED Claims Soldier in Baghdad

Sgt. 1st Class James D. Doster, 37, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died September 29 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive devise and small arms fire.  Doster was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Pfc. Christopher F. Pfeifer, 21, of Spalding, Nebraska, died September 25 in San Antonio, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire Aug. 17 near Kamu, Afghanistan. Pfeifer was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Staff Sgt. Zachary B. Tomczak, 24, of Huron, South Dakota, died September 25, in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire. Tomczak was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


Enemy Attack Claims Soldier in Bayji

Cpl. Anthony K. Bento, 23, of San Diego, died September 24, in Bayji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire. Bento was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


IED Claims Soldier in Mugdadiyah

Staff Sgt. Kevin R. Brown, 38, of Harrah, Oklahoma, died September 25 in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Brown was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Spc. Joshua H. Reeves, 26, of Watkinsville, Georgia, died September 22 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Reeves was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.


Commander Dies from a Non-Combat Related Incident

Command Sgt. Maj. Jonathan M. Lankford, 42, of Scottsboro, Alabama, died September 22, in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Lankford was assigned to the 79th Ordnance Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Incident

Spc. John J. Young, 24, of Savannah, Georgia, died September 21 in Camp Stryker, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Young was an infantryman assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and more.  Young is survived by his father, mother and sister.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Accident

Capt. (Dr.) Roselle M. Hoffmaster, 32, of Cleveland, Ohio, died September 20 in Kirkuk, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Hoffmaster was a surgeon assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.  She was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps in 2004 following internal medicine residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.  She deployed with her unit to Iraq in September.  Hoffman graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts with a degree in biochemistry in 2000.  In 2004, she received her doctorate from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a graduate of the Army Medical Department Officer Basic Course.  Her awards and decorations include the Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.  Hoffmaster is survived by her husband and parents.  Source:  10th Mtn. website.

Pfc. Luigi Marciante Jr., 25, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, died September 20 in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Marciante was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Lewis, Washington.

Cpl. Graham M. McMahon, 22, of Corvallis, Oregon, died September 19 in Balad, Iraq, from a non-combat related illness. McMahon was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Lewis, Washington.


IED Claims Soldier in Baghdad

 

Pfc. Christian M. Neff, 19, of Lima, Ohio, died September 19 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. Neff was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Sgt. Alexander U. Gagalac, 28, of Wahiawa, Hawaii, died September 9 in Hawijah, Iraq, of wounds suffered from a rocket propelled grenade during combat operations. Gagalac was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27thInfantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield, Barracks, Hawaii.


Soldier Killed in IED Attack in Baghdad

Staff Sgt. Courtney Hollinsworth, 26, of Yonkers, New York, died September 9 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and grenades. Hollinsworth was a cavalry scout assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.  He entered the Army in September 1998 and began serving with the 1st ID in June 2006.  This was his second deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.  (Source: Ft. Marine's Death Reclassified

Sgt. Nickolas Lee Hopper, 27, of Montrose, Illinois, died Sept. 8, 2007 from wounds received while supporting combat operations in Anbar Province, Iraq, on June 20, 2005.  Hopper's final autopsy concluded his death was a result of wounds received in Iraq; however, Hopper was not previously identified as an OIF casualty. Hopper was assigned to the 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group-28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Cherry Point, North Carolina.

Cpl. Ryan A. Woodward, 22, of Fort Wayne, Ind., died September 8 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire during combat operations near Baghdad, Iraq. Woodward was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Two Soldiers Die from IED Blast on Sept. 6

Two of the three members of the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle on September 6 died in Mosul, Iraq on September 7. Killed  were:

Spc. Jason J. Hernandez, 21, of Streetsboro, Ohio.

Spc. Thomas L. Hilbert, 20, of Venus, Texas.


Soldiers Dies from Wounds Received in May 7th Fire Fight

Capt. Drew N. Jensen, 27, of Clackamas, California, died September 7 in Seattle of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire during combat operations May 7 in Ba'qubah, Iraq. Jensen was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.


Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Injury Received July 18

Spc. Marisol Heredia, 19, of El Monte, California, died September 7 at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related injury July 18 in Baghdad, Iraq. Heredia was assigned to the 15th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Four members of the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California, died September 6 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Killed were:

Cpl. Christopher L. Poole, Jr., 22, of Mount Dora, Florida.

Cpl. Bryan J. Scripsick, 22, of Wayne, Oklahoma.

Staff Sgt. John C. Stock, 26, of Longview, Texas

Sgt. Michael J. Yarbrough, 24, of Malvern, Arkansas.

Three Soldiers Fatally Wounded in IED Blast

Three members of the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas died from wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations September 6 in Mosul, Iraq. Killed were:

Sgt. Lee C. Wilson, 30, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He died September 6 in Mosul.

Two other soldiers died the following day, September 7, 2007.  They were Spc. Jason J. Hernandez and Spc. Thomas L. Hilbert.

Two Soldiers Killed by IED in Balad

Two members of the 1st Cavalry Division died September 5 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.  Killed were:

 

Cpl. William T. Warford III, 24, of Temple, Texas. Warford was assigned to the 215th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Pfc. Dane R. Balcon, 19, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Balcon was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Two Soldiers Fall to Enemy Action in Baghdad

Two members of the 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia died September 5, in Baghdad as a result of enemy action.  Killed were:

Spc. Keith A. Nurnberg, 26, of McHenry, Illinois, died September 5 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit during combat operations. Nurnberg was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia.

 

Cpl. Javier G. Paredes, 24, of San Antonio, died September 5 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from a rocket propelled grenade. Paredes was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia.


Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Injury

Sgt. 1st Class David A. Cooper, Jr., 36, of State College, Pennsylvania, died September 5 in Baghdad, Iraq, from a non-combat related injury. Cooper was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.

Airman Dies in a Non-Combat Related Incident

Master Sgt. Patrick D. Magnani, 38, of Martinez, California, died September 4 near Bagram, Afghanistan, in a non-combat related incident. Magnani was assigned to the 31st Medical Support Squadron, Aviano Air Base, Italy.  He was serving on a transition team assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division.  He arrived at Ft. Riley in May 2007 and deployed on the transition team in July 2007.  Transition team training is a 60-day training cycle at Ft. Riley designed to prepare small teams of American soldiers, airmen and sailors to advise, teach, mentor and coach their Iraqi or Afghan counterparts.

Enemy Action Claims Soldier in Baghdad

Spc. Rodney J. Johnson, 20, of Houston, died September 4 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit. Johnson was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigad Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. Three Soldiers Killed by IED in Baghdad

Three members of the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas, died September 4 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. Killed were:

Spc. David J. Lane, 20, of Emporia, Kansas.  He was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Division.  He entered the Army in February 2006, and he began serving with the 1stID in July 2006.  This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Sgt. Joel L. Murray, 26, of Kansas City, Kansas.  He was an infantryman assigned to 1st Infantry Division.  He entered the Army in January 2003, and began serving wit the 1stID in April 2006. This was his second deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Pvt. Randol S. Shelton, 22, of Schiller, Park, Illinois. He was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Infantry Division.  He entered the Army in October 2005, and began serving with the 1stID in March 2006.  The was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Staff Sgt. Delmar White, 37, of Wallins, Kentucky, died September 2 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. White was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 138th Field Artillery, Kentucky Army National Guard, Carrollton, Kentucky.

Soldier Dies in a Non-Combat Related Incident

Spc. Christopher G. Patton, 21, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, died September 1 in Baghdad, Iraq, in a non-combat related incident. Patton was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
