1st Lt. Benjamin J. Hall, 24, of Virginia, died July 31 in Asadabad, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit during combat operations in Chowkay Valley, Afghanistan. Hall was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy.

Two Soldiers Killed by Enemy Action

Two members of the 2nd Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska died July 31 in Tunis, Iraq, of wounds suffered from enemy indirect fire. Killed were:

Sgt. Bradley W. Marshall, 37, of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Spc. Daniel F. Reyes, 24, of San Diego.


Three Soldiers Killed by IED in Baghdad

Three members of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington died July 31 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. Killed were:

Spc. Zachariah J. Gonzalez, 23, of Indiana.

Pfc. Charles T. Heinlein, Jr., 23, of Hemlock, Michigan.

Sgt. Stephen R. Maddies, 41, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, died July 31 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire. Maddies was assigned to the 473rd Counter Rocket, Artillery and Mortar Platoon, Tennessee Army National Guard, Columbia, Tennessee.

Cpl. Sean A. Stokes, 24, of Auburn, California, died July 30 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Stokes was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Solder Falls to Enemy Attack in Northern Iraq

Soldier Killed by IED in Muqdadiyah

Pvt. Michael A. Baloga, 21, of Everett, Washington, died July 26 in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. Baloga was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Spc. Daniel A. Leckel, 19, of Medford, Oregon, died July 25 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire. Leckel was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.  He entered the Army in January 2006 and began serving with the 1st ID in May 2006.  This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Fighting Claims Four Marines in Dilaya Province

Four Marines died July 24 while conducting combat operations in Diyala Province, Iraq. Killed were:

Two members of the 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.  They were:

Lance Cpl. Robert A. Lynch, 20, of Louisville, Kentucky. Lynch was assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

Cpl. James H. McRae, 22, of Springtown, Texas. McRae was assigned to 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

And two members of the 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California.  They were:

Hospitalman Daniel S. Noble, 21, of Whittier, California. Noble was permanently assigned to 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force Pacific, Camp Pendleton, California.

Cpl. Matthew R. Zindars, 21, of Watertown, Wisconsin. Zandars was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

IED Kills Soldier in Baqubah

Staff Sgt. Joshua P. Mattero, 29, of San Diego, California, died July 24 in Baqubah, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.  Mattero was assigned to the 749th Ordnance Company, 63rd Explosive Ordnance Battalion, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.


Soldier Killed by IED Blast in Baghdad

Spc. Camy Florexil, 20, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died July 24 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations July 23 in Baghdad. Florexil was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. He entered the Army in September 2005 and began serving with the 1st ID in February 2006.  This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Source: Ft. Riley website.

KS Guard Member Dies from Non-Combat Related Incident

Sgt. Courtney D. Finch, 27, of Leavenworth, Kansas, died July 24 in Qayyarah, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Finch was assigned to the 714th Maintenance Company, Kansas Army National Guard, Topeka, Kansas.

Lance Cpl. Bobby L. Twitty, 20, of Bedias, Texas, died July 22 from a non-hostile vehicle accident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Twitty was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 6, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Soldier Killed by IED Blast in Husayniyah

Pfc. Brandon M. Craig, 25, of Earleville, Maryland, died July 19 in Husayniyah, Iraq, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device. Craig was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.

Enemy Fire Claims Soldier in Rushdi Mullah

Sgt. Nathan S. Barnes, 23, of American Fork, Utah, died July 17 in Rushdi Mullah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents using small arms fire while preparing to enter a helicopter. Barnes was an infantryman assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. Barnes entered the Army in April 2004. Following basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he completed the Basic Airborne Course, also at Fort Benning.  He was first assigned to 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment based at Fort Richardson, Alaska, in September 2004. He was reassigned to Fort Drum in July 2005. Barnes deployed with his unit to Iraq in August 2006. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Parachutist Badge.

Two Soldiers Killed by IED Attack in Baghdad 

Two members of the 401st Military Police Company, 92nd Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas died July 17 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. Killed were:

Pfc. Brandon K. Bobb, 20, of Orlando, Florida.

Pfc. Ron J. Joshua, Jr., 19, of Austin, Texas.


IED Blast in Baghdad Claims Member of 1st ID

Pfc. James J. Harrelson, 19, of Dadeville, Alabama, died July 17 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. Harrelson was an infantryman assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.  He entered the Army in July 2006 and began serving with the 1st ID in December 2006.  This was his first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.  Source: Ft. Massey was assigned to C Battery, 142nd Fires Brigade, Arkansas Army National Guard, Ozark, Arkansas.

Spc. Eric M. Holke, 31, of Crestline, California, died July 15 in Tallil, Iraq, of wounds sustained from a non-combat related incident.  Holke was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 160th Infantry, California Army National Guard, Fullerton, California.

Master Sgt. Randy J. Gillespie, 44, of Coaldale, Colorado, died July 9, in Herat, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered during small arms fire outside of Camp Stone. Gillespie was assigned to the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. Gillespie was serving on a transition team that trained under and deployment from 1st Brigade, 1st ID.  He was assigned to the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona.  Transition team training is a 60-day training cycle to prepare small teams of American soldiers, airmen and sailors to advise, teach, mentor and coach their Iraqi or Afghan counterparts.  Source: Ft. Enemy Attack Claims Soldier in Samarra

Spc. Roberto J. Causor, Jr., 21, of San Jose, California, died July 7 in Samarra, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. Causor was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Injury

Sgt. Jerry L. DeLoach, 45, of Jackson, Georgia, died July 7, 2007, at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He had been medically evacuated from theater, and died of a non-combat related injury. DeLoach was assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Knox.

Soldier Killed by IED in Rustamiyah

Sgt. Eric A. Lill, 28, of Chicago, died July 6 in Rustamiyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations in Baghdad. Lill was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.


Soldier Killed in Mortar Attack in Baghdad

Spc. Michelle R. Ring, 24, of Martin, Tennessee, died July 5 of wounds sustained from enemy mortar fire in Baghdad, Iraq. Ring was assigned to the 92d Military Police Battalion, Fort Benning, Georgia.


Soldier Dies of Non-Combat Related Injuries in Baghdad

Col. Jon M. Lockey, 44, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, died July 6 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Lockey was assigned to Headquarters, Department of the Army, Washington, D.C.


Two Soldiers Killed by IED in Muhammad Sath

Two soldiers died July 6 in Muhammad Sath, Iraq, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device. Killed were:

Pfc. Bruce C. Salazar, Jr., 24, of Tracy, California. Salazar was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Cpl. Kory D. Wiens, 20, of Independence, Oregon. Wiens was assigned to the 94th Mine Dog Detachment, 5th Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.


IED Blast Claims Two Soldiers

Two members of the the 3rd Infantry Division died July 6 in Iraq of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. Killed were:

Sgt. Gene L. Lamie, 25, of Homerville, Georgia. Lamie was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Pfc. Le Ron A. Wilson, 18, of Queens, New York. Wilson was assigned to the 26th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Three Navy SEALS Killed in Baghdad

Three sailors were assigned to an East Coast-based SEAL team died July 6 as a result of enemy action while conducting combat operations in the vicinity of Baghdad, Iraq.  Killed were:

Petty Officer First Class Steven Phillip Daugherty, 28, of Barstow, California.

Petty Officer First Class Jason Dale Lewis, 30, of Brookfield, Connecticut.

Petty Officer First Class Robert Richard McRill, 42, of Lake Placid, Florida.

Two members of the 2nd Battalion, 503d Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173d Airborne Brigade, Vicenza, Italy died July 5 of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire and indirect fire in the Watapor Valley of Kunar Province, Afghanistan. Killed were:

Fighting in Al Anbar Province Claims Two Marines

Two Marines died July 5 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Killed were:

Cpl. Jeremy D. Allbaugh, 21, of Luther, Okia. Allbaugh was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Lance Cpl. Steven A. Stacy, 23, of Coos Bay, Oregon. Stacy was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

IED Kills Soldier in Baghdad

Spc. Jeremy L. Stacey, 23, of Bismarck, Arkansas, died July 5 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. Stacey was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.


IED Attack Kills Two Soldiers in Baghdad

Two members of the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion, 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne) died July 5 in an IED attack while conducting a patrol during combat operations in Baghdad, Iraq.  Killed were:

Sgt. Keith A. Kline, 24, a signal support systems specialist. Kline deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and his civil affairs company supported the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Baghdad. Kline is survived by his mother and stepfather.

Maj. James M. Ahearn, 43, a civil affairs officer.  Ahearn deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and his civil affairs company supported the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Baghdad. Ahearn is survived by his wife and their daughter, his mother, and his father.

OH Guard Member Dies from a Non-Combat Related Incident

Spc. Anthony M.K. Vinnedge, 24, of Okeana, Ohio, died July 5 at the Radwaniyah Palace Complex, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Vinnedge was assigned to Troop C, 2nd Squadron, 107th Armor Cavalry Regiment, Ohio Army National Guard, Greenville, Ohio.

Chief Warrant Officer Scott A.M. Oswell, 33, of Washington, died July 4 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his helicopter struck a power line. Oswell was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 6th U.S. Air Cavalry, Fort Lewis, Washington.


Enemy Attack Claims Soldier in Baghdad

Pfc. Steven A. Davis, 23, of Woodbridge, Virginia, died July 4 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with grenades. Davis was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.


Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Incident

Pfc. Andrew T. Engstrom, 22, of Slaton, Texas, died July 4 in Taji, Iraq, from injuries sufferedin a non-combat related incident. Engstrom was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
