Soldier Dies from Injuries Received in Non-Combat Related Incident 

Cpl. Jeremy R. Greene, 24, of Springfield, Ohio, died April 28 at Forward Operating Base Tillman, Afghanistan, due to injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Another soldier was also injured in the incident. Greene was an infantryman assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.  Greene enlisted in the Army in February 2004 and completed basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia.  He was initially assigned to Fort Drum and the 3rd BCT in June 2004. He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in February 2006.  His awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Greene is survived by his mother and father.

IED Blast Claims Three Soldiers in Salman Pak

Three members of the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia, died April 28 in Salman Pak, Iraq, of wounds suffered when their vehicle was struck with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire during combat operations. Killed were:

  

Sgt. Glenn D. Hicks, Jr., 24, of College Station, Texas.

Pfc. Jay-D H. Ornsby-Adkins, 21, of Ione, California.

Enemy Fire Claims Soldier in Baghdad 

Sgt. Norman L. Tollett, 30, of Columbus, Ohio, died April 28, in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat patrol operations. Tollett was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


Soldier Killed by IED in Iskandariyah

Sgt. Michael R. Hullender, 29, of Little Falls, New Jersey, died Apr. 28 in Iskandariyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during combat patrol operations. Hullender was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Enemy Fire Claims Soldier in Hirat Province

Staff Sgt. Michael D. Thomas, 34, of Seffner, Florida, died April 27 in Hirat Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using rocket propelled grenades and small arms fire. Thomas was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


Soldier Dies from Injuries Received in Non-Combat Related Incident 

Spc. Daniel F. Mehringer, 20, of Morgantown, West Virginia, died April 27 in Bagram, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Mehringer was assigned to Division Special Troops Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Marine Killed in Al Anbar Province

Sgt. Peter Woodall, 25, of Sarasota, Florida, died April 27 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Woodall was assigned to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Three Soldiers Killed by IED in Fallujah

Three members of the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, died April 27 in Fallujah, Iraq, of wounds they received when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat patrol. Killed were:

Pfc. Nicholas E. Riehl, 21, of Shiocton, Wisconsin.

Three Marines Killed in Al Anbar Province

Three Marines died as a result of injuries received while conducting operations in Al Anbar Province.  Killed were:

Two of the Marines were members of the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, who died April 26 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. They were:

Cpl. Willie P. Celestine, Jr., 21, of Lafayette, Louisiana

Cpl. Christopher Degiovine, 25, of Lone Tree, Colorado.

Also killed was

Lance Cpl. Adam E. Loggins, 27, of Athens, Alabama.  Loggins was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Lance Cpl. Dale G. Peterson, 20, of Redmond, Oregon, died April 23 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Peterson was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

IED Blast Claims Soldier during Checkpoint Ops

Pfc. Jeffrey A. Avery, 19, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died April 23 in Muqudadiyah, Iraq, from wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated during checkpoint operations. Avery was assigned to the 571st Military Police Company, 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade, Fort Lewis, Washington.


Nine Soldiers Killed by IED Blast in As Sadah

Nine members of the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina died April 23 in As Sadah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their location. Killed were:

Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Staff Sgt. Marlon B. Harper, 34, of Baltimore, Maryland, died April 21 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when he came in contact with enemy forces using a rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire during combat operations. Harper was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Enemy Action Claims Soldier in Baghdad

Sgt. William W. Bushnell, 24, of Jasper, Arkansas, died April 21 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle was struck by a rocket propelled grenade during combat operations. Bushnell was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.


Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Pfc. Christopher M. North, 21, of Sarasota, Florida, died April 21, in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire during combat operations. North was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. He entered the Army in July 2005 and began serving at Fort Riley in December 2005. This was North's first deployment. North is the 95th Fort Riley Soldier killed supporting the Global War on Terrorism.

Soldier Dies from Injuries Received in Vehicle Incident 

Pvt. Michael J. Slater, 19, of Scott Depot, West Virginia, died April 21 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle rolled over during combat operations. Slater was assigned to the 407th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


Soldier Killed during Combat Ops in Yusifiyah

Cpl. Ray M. Bevel, 22, of Andrews, Texas, died April 21 in Yusifiyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during combat patrol operations. Bevel was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.


Soldier Killed by Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Staff Sgt. Steven R. Tudor, 36, of Dunmore, Pennsylvania, died April 21 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using indirect fire during combat operations. Tudor was assigned to the 210th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Van Aalten was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Chief Warrant Officer Dwayne L. Moore, 31, of Williamsburg, Virginia, died April 19 in Mahmudiyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when he came in contact with enemy forces using indirect fire. Moore was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Soldier Dies Falls to Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Pfc. Jason M. Morales, 20, of La Puente, California, died April 18 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire. Morales was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, and Fort Riley, Kansas. He entered the Army in November 2005 and began serving at Fort Riley in March 2006.  This was Morales' first deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is the 94th Fort Riley soldier killed supporting the Global War on Terrorism.

Two Soldiers Killed by IED in Taji

Two members of the 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington died April 18 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations.  Killed were:

Cpl. Wade J. Oglesby, 27, of Grand Junction, Colorado.

Cpl. Michael M. Rojas, 21, of Fresno, California.

Pfc. Richard P. Langenbrunner, 19, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, died April 17 in Rustamiyah, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Langenbrunner was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia.

Marines Dies from Non-Hostile Accident

Lance Cpl. Daniel R. Scherry, 20, of Rocky River, Ohio, died April 16 from a non-hostile accident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Scherry was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Three Soldiers Killed in Baghdad

Three members of the 1st Infantry Division died as a result of enemy action in Baghdad on April 16.  Killed were:

Pfc. Aaron M. Genevie, 22, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania died April 16 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. Genevie was a scout assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. He entered the Army in July 2005 and began serving with the 1st Infantry Division in November 2005.  This was Genevie's first deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism

Also killed were two members of the 1st Infantry Division based in Schweinfurt, Germany.  They were:

Pfc. Lucas V. Starcevich, 25, of Canton, Illinois, died April 16 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when the vehicle he was in struck an improvised explosive device. Starcevich was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Sgt. Mario K. De Leon, 26, of San Francisco, California, died April 16 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire. De Leon was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Pfc. Steven J. Walberg, 18, of Paradise, California, died April 15 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire. Walberg was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. Lance Cpl. Daniel J. Santee, 21, of Mission Viejo, California, died April 14 from a non-hostile vehicle accident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Santee was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Spc. Ryan A. Bishop, 32, of Euless, Texas, died April 14 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on dismounted patrol. Bishop was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York.


Two Soldiers Killed in Fallujah

Two members of the 1451st Transportation Company, 13th Support Command, Iraq died April 14 in Fallujah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. Killed were:

1ST Lt. Gwilym J. Newman, 24, of Waldorf, Maryland, died April 12 in Tarmiyah, Iraq, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while on dismounted patrol. Newman was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Dies from Wounds Received in IED Attack

Spc. James T. Lindsey, 20, of Florence, Alaska, died April 12 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. Lindsey was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.


Two Soldiers Killed by IED in Baghdad

Two members of the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska died April 12 in Baghdad, Iraq, when their patrol encountered an improvised explosive device. Killed were:

Pfc. John G. Borbonus, 19, of Boise, Idaho.

Cpl. Cody A. Putnam, 22, of Lafayette, Indiana.

Soldier Dies from Fall into the Korengal River

Sgt. Edelman L. Hernandez, 23, of Hyattsville, Maryland, died April 11 in Korengal Valley, Afghanistan, while on combat patrol. Hernandez was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York. A 10th Mtn. Division release reports  Hernandez was on a foot patrol near Babyal Village, Afghanistan when he lost is footing and fell into a deep section of the Korengal River at around 6 p.m. local time. Other members of his unit immediately began a search to locate Hernandez. His body was recovered the next morning at some distance downstream. Hernandez enlisted in the Army in April 2003 and completed basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia.  He was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division in October 2003. From December 2003 to September 2004, he deployed to Iraq with 1-32 Infantry, the 'Chosin' battalion.  His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and the Combat Action Badge. Hernandez is survived by his mother and father; and two younger brothers.

Sgt. Raymond S. Sevaaetasi, 29, of Pago Pago, American Samoa, died April 11 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. Sevaaetasi was assigned to the 15th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Two Soldiers Killed during Attack in Baghdad

Two members of the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia died April 8 in Baghdad, Iraq, when their unit came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. Killed were:

Small Arms Fire Claims Soldier in Baqubah

Williams was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.


Enemy Fire Claims Soldier in Diwaniyah

Sgt. Adam P. Kennedy, 25, of Norfolk, Massachusetts, died April 8 in Diwaniyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered with his unit came in contact with enemy forces using indirect fire. Kennedy was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.


Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Sgt. Todd A. Singleton, 24, of Muskegon, Michigan, died April 8 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. Singleton was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Pfc. Conor G. Masterson, 21, of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, died April 7 in Eastern Afghanistan of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Masterson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Hohenfels, Germany.

Enemy Action Claims Commander in Baghdad

Cmdr. Philip A. Murphy-Sweet, 42, of Caldwell, Idaho, died April 7, as a result of enemy action in the vicinity of Baghdad. He was operationally assigned to Joint Contracting Command, Multi-National Force - Iraq and was deployed from his permanently assigned command of Naval Inventory Control Point, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.


Four Soldiers Killed by IED in Zaganiyah

Four members of the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, New Carolina died April 7 in Zaganiyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their unit.  Killed were:

Three members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit Eleven, Whidbey Island, Washington died April 6 from enemy action while conducting combat operations near Kirkuk, Iraq.  Killed were:

Chief Petty Officer Gregory J. Billiter, 36, of Villa Hills, Kentucky.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Curtis R. Hall, 24, of Burley, Indiana.

Petty Officer 1st Class Joseph A. McSween, 26, of Valdosta, Georgia.


Three Soldiers Killed by IED Blast in Baghdad

Three members of the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany died April 6 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations. Killed were:

Spc. Ryan S. Dallam, 24, of Norman, Oklahoma.

Capt. Anthony Palermo, 26, of Brockton, Massachusetts.

Pvt. Damian Lopez Rodriguez, Tucson, Arizona.


Two 1st Infantry Division Soldiers Killed in Iraq

Pfc. Daniel A. Fuentes, 19, of Levittown, New York, died April 6 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Baghdad, Iraq. Fuentes was an infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. He entered the Army in 2005 and began serving with the 1st Inf. In a separate attack, Pfc. Jay S. Cajimat, 20, died April 6 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his location in Baghdad, Iraq. Cajimat was an infantryman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.  Cajimat's home of record is Lahaina, Hawaii.  He entered the Army is 2005 and began serving with the 1st Inf. IED Blast Kills Two Soldiers in Taji

Two members of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas died from wounds suffered April 4 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. Killed were:

IED Kills Soldier in Kirkuk

Spc. Brian E. Ritzberg, 24, of Long Island City, New York, died April 2 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit while conducting security or a Police Transition Team near Kirkuk, Iraq. Ritzberg was a military policeman assigned to the 977th Military Police Company, 97th Military Police Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.  He entered the Army in February 2005 and began serving at Fort Riley in June 2005. This was Ritzberg's first deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ritzberg is the 89th Fort Riley soldier killed supporting the Global War on Terrorism.  Source: DoD and Ft. Riley website


Soldier Dies after Long Attempt to Recover

Spc. Curtis R. Spivey, 25, of Chula Vista, California, died April 2 in San Diego of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations on September 16, 2006, in Baghdad, Iraq. Spivey was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Soldier Dies from Injuries Received from IED Blast on March 31st

Staff Sgt. Jason R. Arnette, 24, of Amelia, Virginia, died April 1 in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries he received March 31 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.  Arnette was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.  Also killed in the incident was Spc. Wilfred Flores, Jr., who died March 31, 2007.


Four Soldiers Killed by IED in Baghdad

Four members of the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York died April 1 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations. Killed were:

Spc. William G. Bowling, 24, of Beattyville, Kentucky.

Sgt. Robert M. McDowell, 30, of Deer Park, Texas.

Staff Sgt. David A. Mejias, 26, of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Staff Sgt. Eric R. Vick, 25, of Spring Hope, North Carolina.
