Spc. Chris Kleinwachter, 29, of Wahpeton, North Dakota, died November 30 in Ghazni, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when his vehicle rolled over during combat operations. Kleinwachter was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

IED Blast Claims Soldier in Taji

Staff Sgt. Jeremy W. Mulhair, 35, of Omaha, Nebraska, died November 30 in Taji, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during reconnaissance operations. Mulhair was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Killed by IED in Baghdad

Staff Sgt. John L. Hartman, Jr., 39, of Tampa, Florida, died November 30 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. Hartman was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Two Soldiers Killed by IED

Two members of the 230th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, Kaiserslautern, Germany died November 28 in Logar, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations. Killed were:

Spc. Jeffrey G. Roberson, 22, of Phelan, California.

Staff Sgt. Michael A. Shank, 31 of Bonham, Texas.

IED Blast in Hit Kills Soldier

Cpl. Jonerik Loney, 21, of Hartselle, Alabama, died November 28 in Hit, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Loney was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.


Soldier Killed by Enemy Action in Bayji

Spc. Christopher E. Mason, 32, of Mobile, Alabama, died November 28 in Bayji, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire while on patrol. Mason was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Fighting in Al Anbar Province Claims Marine

Lance Cpl. Michael A. Schwarz, 20, of Carlstadt, New Jersey, died November 27 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Schwarz was assigned to 1st Battalioan, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.


 U.S. AIR FORCE

Pilot Killed in Plane Crash Northwest of Baghdad

Maj. Troy L. Gilbert, 34, of Litchfield Park, Arizona, died November 27 when his F-16C fighter crashed 20 miles northwest of Baghdad, Iraq. Gilbert was supporting Coalition ground combat operations at the time of the crash.  Gilbert was that standardization and evaluation chief for the 332nd Expeditionary Operations Group and assigned to the 309th Fighter Squadron, Luke Air Force Base, Arizona.  He was previously classified as "Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown," awaiting positive DNA identification of remains from the crash site.  Anti-Coalition forces had removed his body before U.S. Forces could secure the area. Soldier Killed in Vehicle Accident

1st Lt. Benjamin D. Keating, 27, of Shapleigh, Maine, died November 26 in Kamdesh, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when his vehicle turned over. Keating was the executive officer for A Troop,  3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment (Reconnaissance, Surveillance, Target Acquisition), 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.  He was commissioned into the regular Army following graduation from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in history where he participated in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program.  Keating was one of 271 ROTC cadets presented the George C. Marshall ROTC Award, which is presented nationally to the most outstanding Army ROTC cadet seniors at each college or university that hosts ROTC detachments.  In July 2004 he was commissioned and completed the Armor Officer Basic Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was assigned to Fort Drum in December 2004. His first assignment was as platoon leader for B Troop, 3-71 Cavalry from December 2004 until November 2005.  Keating deployed to Afghanistan with his unit as part of Task Force Spartan in February 2006.  His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with ‘V' Device, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Combat Action Badge. IED Blast Kills Three Soldiers in Baghdad

Three soldiers died of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle November 26 in Baghdad, Iraq. Killed were:

Two members of the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. They were:

1st Lt. David M. Fraser, 25, of Texas.

Capt. Jason R. Hamill, 31, of New Haven, Connecticut.

Also killed was:

Pvt. Joshua C. Burrows, 20, of Bossier City, Louisiana, who was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Dies from a Non-Combat Related Injury

Sgt. Jeannette T. Dunn, 44, of Bronx, New York, died November 26 in Taji, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related injury. Dunn was assigned to the 15th Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

UT Guard Member Falls to Enemy Action

2nd Lt. Scott B. Lundell, 35, of Hurricane, Utah, died November 25 in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades while on patrol during combat operations. Lundell was assigned to I Corps Artillery, Utah National Guard, Camp Williams, Utah.

Two Marines Killed in Al Anbar Province

Two Marines were killed November 25 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province.  Killed were:

Cpl. Michael C. Ledsome, 24, of Austin, Texas, died November 25 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Ledsome was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

West was a mortarman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay.  He joined the Marine Corps June 2004 and reported to Hawaii November 2004. He was deployed to Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment from May 2005 to January 2006. He deployed to Iraq September 2006. His awards include the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Staff Sgt. Daniel M. Morris, 28, of Clinton, Tennessee, died November 25 in Al Judiah, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Morris was assigned to 1st Squadron, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Goodiron was assigned to National Guard's 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Sgt. 1st Class James D. Priestap, 39, of Harwood, Michigan, died November 23 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when he came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during checkpoint operations. Priestap was assigned to the 46th Military Police Company, Kingsford, Michigan.

Three Marines Killed in Al Anbar Province

Three Marines died November 22 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. All three were members of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.  Killed were:

Lance Cpl. Joshua C. Alonzo, 21, of Dumas, Texas, died November 22 of wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Alonzo was a Team Leader assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. He joined the Marine Corps June 2004 and reported to Hawaii November 2004. He was deployed to Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment from May 2005 to January 2006. He deployed to Iraq September 2006. His awards include the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Also killed in the incident were:

Lance Cpl. James R. Davenport, 20, of Danville, Indiana.

Pvt. Heath D. Warner, 19, of Canton, Ohio.

Sgt. James P. Musack, 23, of Riverside, Iowa, died of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident in Samarra, Iraq, on November 21. Musack was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Killed by IED Blast in Siniyah

Command Sgt. Maj. Donovan E. Watts, 46, of Atlanta, Georgia, died November 21 in Bayji, Iraq, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations in Siniyah, Iraq. Watts was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Brown, 21, of Sacramento, California, died November 14 of wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Brown was an assaultman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay.  Brown joined the Marine Corps Sept. 2005 and reported to Hawaii March 2006. He deployed to Iraq Sept. 2006.  His awards include the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. 

 

Lance Cpl. Mario D. Gonzalez, 21, of La Puente, California, died November 14 of wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Gonzalez was a rifleman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. Gonzalez joined the Marine Corps June 2004 and reported to Hawaii October 2004. He was deployed to Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment from May 2005 to January 2006. He deployed to Iraq September 2006. His awards include the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Scholl was a machine gunner assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. Scholl joined the Marine Corps June 2004 and reported to Hawaii November 2004. He was deployed to Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment from May 2005 to January 2006. He deployed to Iraq September 2006. His awards include the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Two soldiers died November 14 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations.  Killed were:

Col. Thomas H. Felts, Sr., 45, of Sandston, Virginia. Felts was assigned to the Command and General Staff College, School of Advanced Military Studies, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Spc. Justin R. Garcia, 26, of Elmhurst, New York. Garcia was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.


Fighting Claims Soldier in Baghdad

Sgt. 1st Class Tung M. Nguyen, 38, of Tracy, California, died November 14 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations. Nguyen was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


Soldier Killed in Ar Ramadi

Spc. Eric G. Palacios Rivera, 21, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, died November 14 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations. Rivera was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Marine Dies of a Non-Hostile Incident

Lance Cpl. Kristopher C. Warren, 19, of Resaca, Georgia, died November 9 from a non-hostile incident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Warren was assigned to 4th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Two MPs Killed in IED Blast in Baghdad

Two members of the Army's 410th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas died in Baghdad, Iraq, on November 9 after an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. Killed were:

Sgt. Courtland A. Kennard, 22, of Starkville, Mississippi.

Staff Sgt. Gregory W. G. McCoy, 26, of Webberville, Michigan.

IED Blast in Baghdad Claims CA Guard Member

Sgt. 1st Class Rudy A. Salcido, 31, of Ontario, California, died on November 9 in Baghdad, Iraq, after an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle. Salcido was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1114th Transportation Company, Bakersfield, California.

Staff Sgt. Richwell A. Doria, 25, of San Diego, California, died on November 7 in Kirkuk, Iraq, after being struck by small arms fire during an air assault mission. Doria was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Flight Crew Killed in Helicopter Crash

 

Two soldiers died November 6 in Balad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when their AH-64 Apache helicopter crashed. Both soldiers were assigned to the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Killed were:

Chief Warrant Officer John R. Priestner, 42, of Pennsylvania.

Chief Warrant Officer Miles P. Henderson, 24, of Amarillo, Texas.

Sgt. Lucas T. White, 28, of Moses Lake, Washington, died November 6 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his unit came in contact with enemy forces while on patrol. Soldier Dies from IED Blast in Ar Ramadi

Spc. Douglas C. Desjardins, 24, of Mesa, Arizona, died November 5 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his M1A1 Abrams tank during combat operations. Desjardins was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Ray Barracks, Giessen, Germany.

Fighting Claims Marine in Al Anbar Province

Cpl. Kyle W. Powell, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died November 4 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Powell was assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.


Marine Dies from a Non-Hostile Incident

2nd Lt. Mark C. Gelina, 33, of Moberly, Missouri, died November 4 from a non-hostile incident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Gelina was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Soldier Killed by Enemy Action in Baghdad

Spc. James L. Bridges, 22, of Buhl, Idaho, died November 4 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations. Bridges was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Two Marines Killed in Al Anbar Province

Two members of the II Marine Expeditionary Force died November 2 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Killed were:

Lance Cpl. James E. Brown, 20, of Owensville, Indiana. Brown was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Staff Sgt. Jason D. Whitehouse, 27, of Phoenix, Arizona. Whitehouse was assigned to 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Two Reservists Killed in Al Anbar Province

Two Marine Reservists died November 2 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province.  Killed were:

Lance Cpl. Luke B. Holler, 21, of Bulverde, Texas.  Holler was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, San Antonio, Texas.

Cpl. Michael H. Lasky, 22, of Sterling, Alaska.  Lasky was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Incident in Taji

Pvt. Michael P. Bridges, 23, of Placentia, California, died November 2 in Taji, Iraq, from a non-combat related incident. Bridges was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Three Soldiers Killed in IED Blast in Baghdad

Three soldiers, including two Lt. Colonels, died November 2 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an IED detonated near their vehicles.  Killed were:

Two members of the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  They were:

Lt. Col. Paul J. Finken, 40, of Mason City, Iowa.

Staff Sgt. Joseph A. Gage, 28, of Modesto, California. 

Also killed in the incident was:

Lt. Col. Eric J. Kruger, 40, of Garland, Texas. Kruger was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.  Ft. Caron's Mountaineer Newspaper reported that Kruger participated in five combat operations and had served in numerous leadership assignments in Korea, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; Fort Meyer, Virginia; Botswana, Africa, the Pentagon; Afghanistan; Ft. Caron and Iraq.  Some of his awards and decorations included Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Combat Action Badge and Air Assault Badge.  Kruger is survived by his wife, four children and his parents. A Marine and Marine Reservist were Killed in Al Anbar Province 

Fighting claimed two Marines, both from Michigan, on November 1 in Al Anbar Province. Killed were:

Cpl. Gary A. Koehler, 21, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, died November 1 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Khehler was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Lance Cpl. Minhee Kim, 20, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, died November 1 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Kim was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Lansing, Michigan.

Pfc. Kevin J. Ellenburg, 20, of Middleburg, Florida, died November 1 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Ellenburg was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
