Deason, 28, of Farmington, Missouri, died on August 31, in Ad War, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Deason was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Pfc. Colin J. Wolfe, 18, of Manassas, Virginia, died August 30 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Wolfe was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

MN Guard Member Killed by IED

Sgt. Joshua R. Hanson, 27, of West St. Paul, Minnesota, died on August 30, in Khaldea, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Hanson was assigned to the National Guard 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Cpl. Christopher T. Warndorf, 21, of Burlington, Kentucky, died August 29 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Warndorf was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Sgt. Matthew J. Vosbein, 30, of Metairie, Louisiana, died on August 29, in Sadr Al Yusifiyah, Iraq, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol during combat operations. Vosbein was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Marine Lance Cpl. Donald E. Champlin, 28, of Natchitoches, Louisiana, died August 28 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Anbar Province August 27. Champlin was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Soldier Dies from a Non-Combat Related Cause

Spc. Matthew E. Schneider, 23, of Gorham, New Hampshire, died on August 28, in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, from a non-combat related cause. Schneider was assigned to the 141st Signal Battalion, 1st Armored Division, Wiesbaden, Germany.


Soldier Dies from Injuries Sustained in IED Blast

Cpl. Shannon L. Squires, 25, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, died in Brooke Army Medial Center, San Antonio, Texas on August 28, of injuries sustained along Main Supply Route Tampa, Iraq on April 21, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle during combat operations. Squires was assigned to the Army's 3rd Battalion, 321 Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Field Artillery Brigade, XVIIIth Airborne Corps Artillery, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

IED Blast Claims Soldier in Hit

Sgt. David J. Almazan, 27, of Van Nuys, California, died on August 27, in Hit, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. Almazan was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany.


Two Soldiers Killed by Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Two members of the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington died during combat operations August 27, in Baghdad, Iraq, when their M1126 Stryker Vehicle came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.  Killed were:

Spc. Kenneth M. Cross, 21, of Superior, Wisconsin.

Pfc. Daniel G. Dolan, 19, of Roy, Utah.


Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Spc. Joshua D. Jones, 24, of Pomeroy, Ohio, died August 27, in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his HMMWV came in contact with enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations.  Jones was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


IED Claims Soldier in Baghdad

Army Spc. Seth A. Hildreth, 26, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died August 27 in Baghdad of injuries suffered when a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Hildreth was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Four Soldiers Killed by IED in Taji

Four members of the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas died in Taji, Iraq, on Aug 27, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their M2A3 Bradley Vehicle during combat operations.  Killed were:

Sgt. Moises Jazmin, 25, of Providence, Rhode Island.

Spc. Qixing Lee, 20, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Spc. Shaun A. Novak, 21, of Two Rivers, Wisconsin.

Spc. Tristan C. Smith, 23, of Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania.


 ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

NC Guard Member Dies from Non-Combat Related Cause

Sgt. Darry Benson, 46, of Winterville, North Carolina, died on August 27, in Camp Virginia, Kuwait, from a non-combat related cause. Benson was assigned the Army National Guard's 730th Quartermaster Battalion, Ahoskie, North Carolina.


NE Guard Member Dies from Injuries Received in Vehicle Accident

Staff Sgt. Jeffrey J. Hansen, 31, of Cairo, Nebraska, died on August 27, in Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries suffered on August 21 from a vehicle accident in Balad, Iraq. Hansen was assigned to the Army National Guard 1st Squadron, 167th Cavalry Regiment, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Cpl. David G. Weimortz, 28, of Irmo, South Carolina died August 26 from injuries suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Weimortz was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Spc. Edgardo Zayas, 29, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, died on August 26, in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol during combat operations. Zayas was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Two Marines Killed during Combat Operations in Al Anbar Province

Two members of different units died in combat in Al Anbar Province on August 24.  Killed were:

Staff Sgt. Gordon G. Solomon, 35, of Fairborn, Ohio, died August 24 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Solomon was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Staff Sgt. Dwayne E. Williams, 28, of Baltimore, Maryland, died August 24 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Williams was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

Soldier Falls to Small Arms Fire in Baghdad

Sgt. Jeremy E. King, 23, of Meridian, Idaho, died on August 24, in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained by enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations. King was assigned to the 8th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Spc. Thomas J. Barbieri, 24, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, died on August 23 south of Baghdad, Iraq when his patrol encountered enemy forces small arms fire during combat operations. Barbieri was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

IED Claims Naval Officer in Al Anbar Province

Chief Petty Officer Paul J. Darga, 34, of Lansing, Michigan, died August 22 when his Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was struck by an improvised explosive device while responding to a previous strike. His unit was conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the Al Anbar province, Iraq. Darga was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Two, serving with the 1st Marine Logistics Group.

Soldier Killed by IED Blast in Taji

Master Sgt. Brad A. Clemmons, 37, of Chillicothe, Ohio, died August 21 when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle. The vehicle was part of a transportation convoy in route to Taji, Iraq. Clemmons was assigned to the 354th Civil Engineer Squadron, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.

Two Marines Die in Combat in Al Anbar Province

Two members of the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California, died August 20 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.  Killed were:

IED Claims Navy Man in Al Anbar Province

Hospitalman Chadwick T. Kenyon, 20, of Tucson, Arizona, died August 20 of injuries suffered when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Kenyon was assigned to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Soldier Falls to Enemy Fire in Mosul

Sgt. Gabriel G. DeRoo, 25, of Paw Paw, Michigan, died on August 20 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries suffered when he encountered enemy forces using small arms fire during combat operations. DeRoo was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.

IED Claims Three Soldiers in Afghanistan

Three soldiers died in Kunar, Afghanistan on August 19 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their convoy vehicle.  The soldiers were part of a convoy transporting suppliers to an outlying camp when they were attacked. Killed were:

Two members of the 710th Combat Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.  They were:

Sgt. Wakkuna A. Jackson, 21, of Jacksonville, Florida, was a health care specialist assigned to Company C, 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.  She enlisted in the Army in February 2004 and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After she attend advanced training to become a combat medic (April to August 2004), Jackson deployed with her unit to Afghanistan in early 2006.  Her awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Driver Badge.  Jackson is survived by her mother, father and two sisters.   Source: 10th Mtn. Spc. Christopher F. Sitton, 21, of Montrose, Colorado, was a health care specialist assigned to Company C, 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. He entered the Army in January 2004 and  completed basic combat training at Fort Knox, Kentucky in March 2004. In August 2004, he completed advanced training to become a combat medic and deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in early 2006.  His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. Also killed in the attack was:

Spc. Robert E. Drawl Jr., 21, of Alexandria, Virginia. Drawl was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. He enlisted in the Army in January 2005 and trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, to be an infantryman. In May 2005, following basic and advanced training, he was assigned to Fort Drum.  He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in early 2006.  His awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.  Drawl is survived by his wife, two daughters, mother, step-father and father.  Source: 10th Mtn. Enemy Attack Claims Soldier in Ar Ramadi

Sgt. Marquees A. Quick, 28, of Hoover Alabama, died on August 19, in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, of injuries suffered while conducting security and observation operations, when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using multiple grenades. Quick was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany.

Enemy Fire Claims Airman in Uruzgan Province

Senior Airman Adam P. Servais, 23, of Onalaska, Wisconsin, died August 19, when his vehicle came under hostile fire in Uruzgan Province.  Servais was assigned to the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Florida.

Sgt 1st Class Ruben J. Villa Jr., of El Paso, Texas, died on August 18, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from a non-combat related cause. Villa was assigned to the Army's Area Support Group (CFLCC), Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

Enemy Fire Claims Soldier

Pvt. Joseph R. Blake, 34, of Portland, Oregon, died on August 17 in Turkalay, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when his platoon encountered enemy forces small arms fire. Blake was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.  He enlisted in the Army in January 2005 and trained at Fort Benning, Georgia to be an infantryman. Following basic and advanced individual training, he was assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team in July 2005.  Blake deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in early 2006.  His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Expert Infantryman Badge.  Blake is survived by his parents of Livonia, Michigan.

Soldier Falls in IED Attack in Baghdad

Pfc. James J. Arellano, 19, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died on August 17 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when his patrol encountered enemy forces using improvised explosive devices and small arms fire. Arellano was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Marine Dies from Wounds Received March 7th

Sgt. John P. Phillips, 29, of St. Stephen, South Carolina, died August 16 at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, from wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, on March 7. Phillips was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.

Jenkins was assigned to the Army's 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Two Soldiers Killed by IED Blast in Baghdad

Two members of the Army's 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas died in Baghdad, Iraq of injuries sustained on August 12, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their dismounted patrol during combat operations.  Killed were:

Helicopter Crew Killed in Crash

Two members of the 82nd Medical Company (Air Ambulance), Fort Riley, Kansas dies on August 8, when their UH-60 Blackhawk crashed into a lake in the vicinity of Korean Village in Rubtbah, Iraq. Killed were:

Sgt. Jeffery S. Brown, 25, of Trinity Center, California.  Brown, who served as a crew chief, entered the Army in July 2000 and arrived at Fort Riley in September 2003.  This was Brown's second deployment to Iraq with the 82nd Medical Company. Photos courtesy Ft. Riley website.

Sgt. Steven P. Mennemeyer, 26, of Granite City, Illinois.  Mennemeyer , who served as a flight medic, entered the Army in August 2002 and arrived at Fort Riley in February 2005.  This was Mennemeyer's second deployment.  He previously deployed with the 1st Armored Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I.  Photos courtesy Ft. Killed were:

Sgt. Carlton A. Clark, 22, of South Royalton, Vermont.

Staff Sgt. Stephen A. Seale, 25, of Grafton, West Virginia.

Spc. Jose Zamora, 24, of Sunland Park, New Mexico.

Staff Sgt. Tracy L. Melvin, 31, of Seattle, Washington, died of injuries sustained on August 6, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. Melvin was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.

Sgt. Bradley H. Beste, 22, of Naperville, Illinois.

Staff Sgt. Clint J. Storey, 30, of Enid, Oklahoma.


Soldier Dies from Injuries in Vehicle Accident

FL Guard Member Dies from Injuries Received in Kabul

Staff Sgt. Daniel A. Suplee, 39, of Ocala , Florida, died on August 3 at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Tampa, Florida, of injuries sustained on April 1 in Kabul, Afghanistan, when his HMMWV was involved in a traffic accident. Suplee was assigned to the National Guard 153rd Cavalry Squadron, Ocala, Florida.

Fighting in Al Anbar Province Claims Two Marines

Lance Cpl. Kurt E. Dechen, 24, of Springfield, Vermont, died August 3 from wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Dechen was assigned to 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, while attached to Regimental Combat Team 5, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Sgt. George M. Ulloa, Jr., 23, of Austin, Texas, died August 3 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.  Ulloa was assigned to 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Marine Killed in Al Anbar Province

Cpl. Joseph A. Tomci, 21, of Stow, Ohio, died August 2 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Tomci was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

WI Guard Member Killed by IED in Tikrit

Sgt. Ryan D. Jopek, 20, of Merrill, Wisconsin, died in Tikrit, Iraq on August 2 of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy. Jopek was assigned to the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment, Waupun, Wisconsin.


TN Guard Member Killed in Rawah

Sgt. Dustin D. Laird, 23, of Martin, Tennessee, died on August 2 during combat operations in Rawah, Iraq. Laird was assigned to the Army National Guard 913th Engineer Company, 46th Engineer Battalion, Union City, Tennessee.

Navy Seal Killed in Ar Ramadi

Petty Officer 2nd Class Marc A. Lee, 28, of Hood River, Oregon, was killed on August 2 during combat operations while on patrol in Ramadi, Iraq.  Lee was an aviation ordnanceman and a member of a West Coast-based SEAL Team.

Spc. Hai Ming Hsia, 37, of New York, New York, died August 1 during combat operations in Ar Ramadi, Iraq.  Hsia was assigned to the 6th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.
