Enemy Action Claims Marine in Al Anbar Province

Lance Cpl. Jacob W. Beisel, 21, of Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania died March 31 from wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Beisel was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Injuries

Two members of the Army's 4th Battalion, 4th Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas died in Baghdad Iraq on April 1, when their Apache helicopter crashed while conducting a combat air patrol.  Killed were:

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Michael L. Hartwick, of Orrick, Missouri.

Capt. Timothy J. Moshier, 25, of Albany, New York.

Soldier Dies from Non-Combat Related Injuries

Pfc. Joseph J. Duenas, 23, of Mesa, Arizona, died in Kirkuk Province, Iraq on March 30 from non-combat related injuries while returning from combat operations.  Duenas was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101 Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

IED Claims Airman Near Baghdad

Tech. Sgt. Walter M. Moss, Jr., 37, of Houston, Texas, died on March 29 near Baghdad, Iraq.  An improvised explosive device detonated while he was conducting operations. Moss was assigned to the 366th Civil Engineer Squadron, Mountain Home AFB, Idaho.

 ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

VT Guard Member Killed in Enemy Attack

Sgt. 1st Class John T. Stone, 52, of Norwich, Vermont, died March 28 in Lashkagar, Afghanistan as a result of enemy mortar and small arms attacks during combat operations.  Stone was assigned to the Army National Guard's 15th Civil Support Team, South Burlington, Vermont.

IED Blast Kills Soldier in Rutbah

Sgt. Michael D. Rowe, 23, New Port Richey, Florida, died in Rutbah, Iraq on March 28, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. Rowe was assigned to the 46th Engineer Battalion, Warrior Brigade, Fort Polk, Louisiana.


Enemy Fire Claims Soldier in Baghdad

Pfc. Sean D. Tharp, 21, of Orlando, Florida, died in Baghdad, Iraq on March 28, when his element came under enemy small arms fire while conducting dismounted patrol operations. Tharp was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

IED Claims Soldier in Al Taquaddum

Staff Sgt. Robert Hernandez, 47, of Silver Springs, Maryland., died in Al Taquaddum, Iraq on March 28, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations.  Hernandez was assigned to the Army Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 318th Regiment, 1st Brigade, 80th Division (Institutional Training), Fort Meade, Maryland.

Enemy Fire Claims MS Guard Member

Staff Sgt. Christopher L. Robinson, 36, Brandon, Mississippi, died in Sangain District, Afghanistan on March 25, when his HMMWV came under enemy small arms fire during combat operations.  Robinson was assigned to the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, Jackson, Mississippi.

  ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

PA Guard Member Dies from Non-Combat Related Cause

Spc. Frederick A. Carlson, 25, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, died in Taqqadum, Iraq on March 25, from a non-combat related cause.  Carlson was assigned to the Army National Guard's 228th Forward Support Battalion, 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Division, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

KY Guard Member Killed by IED Blast

Staff Sgt. Brock A. Beery, 30, of White House, Tennessee, died in Habbaniyah, Iraq on March 23, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his LMTV followed by enemy small arms fire during combat operations.  Beery was assigned to the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 123rd Armor Regiment, Bowling Green, Kentucky.


PA Guard Member Killed by Enemy Fire

Sgt 1st Class Randy D. McCaulley, 44, Indiana, Pennsylvania, died in Habbaniyah, Iraq on March 23, when his dismounted patrol came under enemy small arms fire during combat operations.  McCaulley was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 110th Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, Indiana, Pennsylvania.  According to the PA-ARNG website,  McCaulley served in the regular Army from 1979 to 1983 and joined the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1984. During his military career, McCaulley was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, Air Assault Badge and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class and will be awarded the Purple Heart.  McCaulley is survived by his parents and two sons.

McCaulley is the 24th Soldier of the Pennsylvania National Guard to be killed in the Global War on Terror.  More than 2,200 Pennsylvania National Guard troops are currently serving in Iraq.

Soldier Killed by Enemy Fire in Baghdad

Spc. Antoine J. McKinzie, 25, of Indianapolis, Indiana, died in Baghdad, Iraq, on March 21, when his HMMWV came under enemy small arms fire during combat operations.  McKinzie was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.

Enemy Fire Claims Two Soldiers in Ar Ramadi

Two members of the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on March 18, when they came under small arms fire by enemy forces during combat operations. Killed were:

Staff Sgt. Ricardo Barraza, 24, of Shafter, California.

Sgt. Dale G. Brehm, 23, of Turlock, California.

Solder Killed by Mortar Round in Tikrit

Two members of the 101st Military Intelligence Detachment, 501st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky died in Tikrit, Iraq, on March 16, when a mortar round detonated near them. Killed were:

Sgt. Amanda N. Pinson, 21, of St. Louis, Missouri.

Spc. Carlos M. Gonzalez, 22, of Middletown, New York.

Soldier Killed in Baghdad

Pfc. Angelo A. Zawaydeh, 19, of San Bruno, California, died in Baghdad, Iraq on March 15, when his traffic control point came under mortar attack during combat operations. Zawaydeh was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Marine Killed in Vehicle Accident

Lance Cpl. Nicholas R. Anderson, 21, of Sauk City, Wis., died March 13 in a non-hostile vehicle accident in Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.  Anderson joined the Marine Corps January 2005 and reported to Hawaii July 2005. He deployed to Afghanistan January 2006. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.  Anderson is survived by` his father, mother, and sister.

Soldier Killed by IED Blast in Rustamiyah

Staff Sgt. Bryan A. Lewis, 32, of Bunkie, Louisiana, died north of Rustamiyah, Iraq, on March 13, when an improvised device detonated near his HMMWV during a convoy operations. Lewis was assigned to the 519th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, Fort Polk Louisiana.


Two Soldiers Killed in Ar Ramadi Attack

Two members of the Army's 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky died near Ar Ramadi, Iraq on March 13, when they came under small arms fire and an improvised explosive device detonated during combat operations.  Killed were:

Staff Sgt. Marco, A. Silva, 27, of Alva, Florida.

Sgt. Corey A. Dan, 22, of Norway, Maine.

Four Soldiers Killed by IED Blast

Four soldiers were killed west of Asadabad, Afghanistan, on March 12, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their HMMWV during combat operations.

Killed were three members of the Army Reserve's 391st Engineer Battalion, Asheville, North Carolina:

Sgt. Kevin D. Akins, 29, of Burnsville, North Carolina.

Spc. Joshua L. Hill, 24, of Fairmount, Indiana.

Staff Sgt. Joseph, R. Ray, 29, of Asheville, North Carolina.

Also killed was:

Sgt. Anton J. Hiett, 25, of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Hiett was assigned to the Army Reserve's 391st Engineer Battalion, Greenville, South Carolina.

Marine Falls to Enemy Fire in Al Anbar

Lance Cpl. Kristen K. Figueroa, 20, of Honolulu, Hawaii, died March 12 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Figueroa was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Lance Cpl. Kristen K. Marino, 20, of Honolulu, Hawaii, died March 12 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Marino was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Lance Cpl. Bunny Long, 22, of Modesto, California, died March 10 from a suicide, vehicle-borne, improvised explosive device in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Long was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Gunnery Sgt. John D. Fry, 28, of Lorena, Texas died March 8 from improvised explosive devices in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Fry was assigned to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Gunnery Sgt. Justin R. Martone, 31, of Bedford, Virginia died March 7 from improvised explosive devices in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Martone was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.


 U.S. ARMY

Soldier Killed by IED Blast in Mosul

Pfc. Ricky Salas, Jr., 22, of Roswell, New Mexico, died in Mosul, Iraq, on March 7, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle while conducting mounted operations.  Salas was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, Friedberg, Germany.

Marine Dies of Injuries Received in IED Blast

Cpl. Adam O. Zanutto, 26, of Caliente, California, died March 6 at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, from wounds received as a result of an improvised explosive device in Al Anbar Province, Iraq on February 25.  He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

 ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

MI Guard Member Dies from Injuries Sustained in November IED Attack

Sgt. Joshua V. Youmans, 26, of Flushing, Michigan, died at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, on March 1, from injuries sustained in Habbaniyah, Iraq on November 21, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. Youmans was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion,125th Infantry Regiment, Saginaw, Michigan.


VT Guard Member Killed in Ar Ramadi during Enemy Attack

Spc. Christopher S. Merchant, 32, of Hardwick, Vermont, died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on March 1, when his HMMWV came under attack by enemy forces using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device and rocket-propelled grenade.  Merchant was assigned to the Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment, Jericho, Vermont.
