Two Soldiers Killed in Fallujah by IED

Two members of the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas died November 30 in Fallujah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their military vehicle.  Killed were:

Sgt. Pablo A. Calderon, 26, of Brooklyn, New York.

Sgt. Jose Guereca, Jr., 24, of Missouri City, Texas

Marine Killed in Al Anbar Province

Lance Cpl. Blake A. Magaoay, 20, of Pearl City, Hawaii, died November 29 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

IED Kills Soldier in Al Migdadiyah

Spc. Erik W. Hayes, 24, of Cascade, Maryland, died November 29 in Al Miqdadiyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. Hayes was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.


 ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

Two NY Guard Members Killed in Baghdad by IED

Two members of the Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, New York, New York, died November 29 in Baghdad, Iraq, when their military vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.  AFPS reported that three other soldiers were wounded in the attack and evacuated by air to the 31st Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad. Killed were:

Sgt. Christian P. Engeldrum, 39, of Bronx, New York

Pfc. Wilfredo F. Urbina, 29, of Baldwin, New York


FL Guard Member Killed in Traffic Accident

Spc. Daryl A. Davis, 20, of Orlando, Florida, died November 29 in Iraq when his HMWWV was involved in a traffic accident. Davis was assigned to the Army National Guard's 144th Transportation Company, Marianna, Florida.

Two Marines Killed in Babil Province

Two members of the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, died November 28 as a result of enemy action in Babil Province, Iraq.  Killed were:

Lance Cpl. Adam R. Brooks, 20, of Manchester, New Hampshire.

Lance Cpl. Charles A. Hanson, Jr., 22, of Panacea, Florida.

Three Soldiers Killed in Ar Ramadi

Three members of the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Howze, Korea, died November 28 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when their unit was conducting a dismounted patrol and they encountered enemy forces using small arms fire.  Killed were:

SSgt. Carl W. Lee, 23, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Staff Sgt. Michael B. Shackelford, 25, of Grand Junction, Colorado.


Soldier Killed in Vehicle Incident

Sgt. Trinidad R. Martinezluis, 22, of Los Angeles, California, died November 28 in Baqubah, Iraq, when his 5-ton vehicle rolled over and pinned him underwater. Martinezluis was assigned to the Army’s 201st Forward Support Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.

Three Soldiers Killed in Aircraft Crash

Three members of the 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, November 27 in Bamian, Afghanistan, when their contract aircraft crashed.  Killed were:

   

Chief Warrant Officer Travis W. Grogan, 31, of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Lt. Col. Michael J. McMahon, 41, of Connecticut.

Spc. Harley D. R. Miller, 21, of Spokane, Washington.

Two Marines Killed in Al Anbar Province

Cpl. Kirk J. Bosselmann, 21, of Napa, California, died November 27 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province Iraq. Bosselmann was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Lance Cpl. Joshua E. Lucero, 19, of Tucson, Arizona, died November 27 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province Iraq. Lucero was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Soldier Killed in Ad Duilayah While on Patrol

Spc. Jeremy E. Christensen, 27, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died November 27 in Ad Duilayah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol vehicle. AFPS reported that the blast also damaged an M-1 Abrams tank. Christensen was assigned to 1st Squadron, 4th Armored Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Two members of the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, died November 26 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province Iraq. Killed were:

Lance Cpl. David B. Houck, 25, of Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Marine Dies in Non-Combat Related Incident

Lance Cpl. Jordan D. Winkler, 19, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died November 26 due to a non-combat related incident at Camp Fallujah, Iraq.  Winkler was assigned to Combat Service Support Battalion 1, Combat Service Support Group 11, 1st Force Service Support Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Two Soldiers Killed in Ar Ramadi

Smith, 24, of Camden, Arkansas, died November 26 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., from injuries sustained in Baghdad, Iraq, on November 7 when he was attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire. Smith was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, Texarkana, Arkansas.

Sgt. Nicholas S. Nolte was assigned to 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point North Carolina.

Soldier Dies of Accidental Injuries

Sgt. Michael C. O’Neill, 22, of Mansfield, Ohio, died November 21 in Landstuhl, Germany, of accidental injuries sustained on November 17 at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, during preparations for combat operations. O’Neill was assigned to the Army’s 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia.

Two Marines Die from Wounds Received in Al Anbar Province

Fighting claimed two Marines from the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force. They were:

Cpl. Joseph J. Heredia, 22, of Santa Maria, California, died November 20 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, from wounds received as a result of enemy action on November 10 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Heredia was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.

Lance Cpl. Joseph T. Welke, 20, of Rapid City, South Dakota, died November 20 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, from wounds received as a result of enemy action on November 19 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Welke was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.

Soldier Killed in Attack on Convoy

Sgt. Jack Bryant, Jr., 23, of Dale City, Virginia, died November 20 in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military convoy followed by an enemy rocket-propelled grenade attack. Bryant was assigned to the 3rd Brigade Fire Support Team (1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division), Vilseck, Germany.

NY Guard Member Killed in Baghdad

Spc. David L. Roustum, 22, of West Seneca, New York, died November 20 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his up-armored HMMWV was attacked by enemy forces using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. Roustum was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment, Tonawanda, New York.

Two of the Marines were from the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.  They were:

Marine Dies from Wounds Received in Al Anbar Province

Lance Cpl. Michael A. Downey, 21, of Phoenix, Arizona, Downey died November 19 at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, from wounds received as a result of enemy action on November 11 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Downey was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Enemy Action Claims Reservist in Al Anbar Province

Two Soldiers Killed in Khadadiyah

Two members of the 2nd Infantry Division were killed November 16 in Khaladiyah.  They were:

Staff Sgt. Marshall H. Caddy, 27, of Nags Head, North Carolina, died November 16 in Khaladiyah, Iraq, when his military vehicle struck another military vehicle. Caddy was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Greaves, Korea.

1st Lt. Luke C. Wullenwaber, 24, of Lewiston, Idaho, died November 16 in Khaladiyah, Iraq, when he was conducting a security mission and a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. Wullenwaber was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Greaves, Korea.


Soldier Killed by IED in Mosul

Pfc. Jose Ricardo Flores-Mejia, 21, of Santa Clarita, California, died November 16 in Mosul, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device hit his convoy. Flores-Mejia was assigned to the 25th Transportation Company, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.


Soldier Killed in Vehicle Incident

Spc. Daniel James McConnell, 27, of Duluth, Minnesota, died November 16 in Kirkuk, Iraq, when he was involved in a vehicle accident. McConnell was assigned to the 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Ten Marines Killed in Al Anbar Province

Six of the Marines killed were from the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force. They were:

Two members of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, died November 15 as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Killed were:

Capt. Patrick Marc M. Rapicault, 34, of St. Augustine, Florida. He was born in France, and came to the United States as a foreign exchange student. He came to Mississippi and later attended college there, earning a degree in business.

His heart was with the military, said his wife, Vera Rapicault.  He joined the Marines and at about 25, became an American citizen, which enabled him to pursue his dream of becoming an officer.  His wife recalled that his use of the colloquialism "y'all" came with his thick French accent.

"He ate, drank and slept the military," said Vera. "He was the kind of man who wanted to be in the military, the kind of man you would want to be out there (in Iraq)."

Vera Rapicault reported that her husband had been in Iraq once before, and was injured with second degree burns in a bombing.

Rapicault was the commanding officer of his unit's weapons company in the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment at the time of his death.  Source: Arlington National Cemetery website.

Also killed in the attack was:

Two members of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, died November 15 as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Killed were:

Lance Cpl. Antoine D. Smith, 22, of Orlando, Florida.

Lance Cpl. Shane E. Kielion, 23, of La Vista, Nebraska.

Lance Cpl. Jeramy A. Ailes, 22, of Gilroy, California, died November 15 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province.  Ailes was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. 

Lance Cpl. James E. Swain, 20, of Kokomo, Indiana, died November 15 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province.  Swain was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. 

Also killed were three members of the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.  They were:

Three members of the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, died November 15 as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Killed were:

Lance Cpl. Travis R. Desiato, 19, of Bedford, Massachusetts.

Lance Cpl. Bradley L. Parker, 19, of Marion, West Virginia.

Cpl. Nicholas L. Ziolkowski, 22, of Towson, Maryland.

The tenth Marine killed was from the 3rd Marine Division, III Expeditionary Force.  He was:

Sgt. Rafael Peralta, 25, of San Diego, California, died November 15 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province.  Peralta was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Soldier Killed in Vehicle Incident

Pfc. Isaiah R. Hunt, 20, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, died November 15 in Baghdad, Iraq, when the driver of his military vehicle accidentally struck another vehicle. Hunt was assigned to the 782nd Main Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The fifth Marine killed was from the II Marine Expeditionary Force.  He was:

Cpl. Kevin J. Dempsey, 23, of Monroe, Connecticut, died November 13 due to enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Dempsey was assigned to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Soldier Killed in Vehicle Incident

Pfc. Cole W. Larsen, 19, of Canyon Country, California, died November 13 in Baghdad, Iraq, when a civilian vehicle struck his military vehicle causing it to roll over. Larsen was assigned to the 272nd Military Police Company, 21st Theater Support Command, Mannheim, Germany.


Soldier Killed in Fallujah While Clearing Building

Capt. Sean P. Sims, 32, of El Paso, Texas, died November 13 in Fallujah, Iraq, when his unit received small arms fire while clearing a building.  Sims was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.

Reservist Killed in Mortar Attack

Fighting in Al Anbar Province Claims Five Marines

Two of the five Marines killed were from the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force  They were:

Lance Cpl. Nicholas H. Anderson, 19, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died November 12 in a vehicle incident while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Anderson was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

 

Sgt. Morgan W. Strader, 23, of Croosville, Indiana, died November 12 as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Strader was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

One Marine Killed was from the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionalry Force.  He was:

Marine Dies From Wound Received at Abu Ghraib

Cpl. Jarrod L. Maher, 21, of Imogene, Iowa, died November 12 as result of a non-hostile gunshot wound at Abu Ghraib, Iraq.   Maher was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Cpl. Brian P. Prening, 24, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, died November 12 as result of enemy action in Babil Province, Iraq.  Prening was assigned to Marine Corps Reserve’s 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Chicago, Illinois.

Three Soldiers Die in Fallujah

Two of the soldiers were from the 1st Infantry Division based in Vilseck, Germany.  They were:

1st Lt. Edward D. Iwan, 28, of Albion, Nebraska, died November 12 in Fallujah, Iraq, when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his Bradley Fighting Vehicle.  Iwan was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.

Sgt. James C. Matteson, 23, of Celoron, New York, died November 12 in Fallujah, Iraq, when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his Bradley Fighting Vehicle.  Matteson was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.

The third soldier killed was from the 1st Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood, Texas.  He was

Sgt. Jonathan B. Shields, 25, of Atlanta, Georgia, died November12 in Fallujah, Iraq, when he was accidentally struck by a tank.  Shields was assigned to the Army's 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment (Armor), 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Killed in Baghdad

Spc. Raymond L. White, 22, of Elwood, Indiana, died November 12 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his patrol encountered enemy forces using small arms fire.  White was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment (Armor), 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Small Arms Fire Claims Soldier in Mosul

Spc. Thomas K. Doerflinger, 20, of Silver Spring, Maryland, died November 11 in Mosul, Iraq, when his unit received small arms fire while conducting combat operations. Doerflinger was assigned to 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.


Detonated IED Kills Soldier in Habbaniyah

Staff Sgt. Sean P. Huey, 28, of Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, died November 11 in Habbaniyah, Iraq, when his unit was on patrol and a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Huey was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Greaves, Korea.

Lance Cpl. Wesley J. Canning, 21, of Friendswood, Texas, died November 10 as result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Canning was assigned to 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The sixth Marine killed was from the 3rd Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.  He was:

Lance Cpl. Aaron C. Pickering, 20, of Marion, Illinois, died November 10 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Pickering was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Soldier Killed in Grenade Attack on Tank

Pfc. Dennis J. Miller, Jr., 21, of La Salle, Michigan, died November 10 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when his unit came under enemy attack and a rocket-propelled grenade struck his M1A1 Abrams tank. Miller was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea.

Hostile Fire in Fallujah Claims Sailor 

Petty Officer Third Class Julian Woods, 22, of Jacksonville, Florida, died November 10 as a result of hostile fire in Fallujah, Iraq. Woods was assigned to 3rd Marine Division Detachment, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaheohe Bay, Hawaii.

Lance Cpl. Kyle W. Burns, 20, of Laramie, Wyoming, died November 11 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Burns was assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Lance Cpl. Abraham Simpson, 19, Chino, California, died November 9 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Simpson was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Three of the Marines killed were from the 2nd Division of the II Marine Expeditionary Force.  They were:

Sgt. David M. Caruso, 25, of Naperville, Illinois, died November 9 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Caruso was assigned to 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Staff Sgt. Russell L. Slay, 28, of Humble, Texas, died November 9 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Slay was assigned to 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Sgt. Lonny D. Wells, 29, of Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, died November 9 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Wells was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Spc. Travis A. Babbitt, 24, of Uvalde, Texas, died November 9 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his patrol was attacked by enemy forces using a rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire. Babbitt was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Killed in Fallujah

Command Sgt. Maj. Steven W. Faulkenburg, 45, of Huntingburg, Indiana, died November 9 in Fallujah, Iraq, when he came under small arms fire while conducting combat operations. Faulkenburg was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.


Soldier Killed in Attack on Living Area in Mosul

Maj. Horst G. Moore, 38, of San Antonio, Texas, died November 9 in Mosul, Iraq, when enemy mortar rounds detonated within his unit living area.  Moore was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker BrigadeCombat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.


Soldier Killed in Ar Ramadi in Attack on Patrol

Sgt. John B. Trotter, 25, of Marble Falls, Texas, died November 9 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when he was on patrol and his unit came under attack by enemy forces using small arms fire. Trotter was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Howze, Korea.

Reservist Killed in Attack in Fallujah

Staff Sgt. Todd R. Cornell, 38, of West Bend, Wisconsin, died November 9 in Fallujah, Iraq, when acting in an advisory support capacity and his Iraqi unit came under attack by enemy forces using small arms fire. Cornell was assigned to the Army Reserve's 1st Battalion, 339th Infantry Regiment, Fraser, Michigan.

Airman Killed in Grenade Attack in Mosul

Master Sgt. Steven E. Auchman, 37, of Waterloo, New York, died November 9 from injuries received when multiple rocket propelled grenades struck his location in Mosul, Iraq.  Auchman was assigned to the 5th Air Support Operations Squadron, Fort Lewis, Washington.

Staff Sgt. David G. Ries, 29, of Clark, Washington, died November 8 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Ries was assigned to the Marine Corps Reserve's 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, Portland, Oregon.

Reservist Dies in Non-Hostile Vehicle Incident

Cpl. Joshua D. Palmer, 24, of Blandinsville, Illinois, died November 8 as a result of a non-hostile vehicle incident in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Palmer was assigned to the Marine Corps Reserve's 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, headquartered in Portland, Oregon.

Spc. Bryan L. Freeman, 31, of Lumberton, New Jersey, died November 8 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds sustained earlier that day when he came under small arms fire while conducting a vehicle search. Freeman was assigned to the 443rd Civil Affairs, Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve, Warwick, Rhode Island.

Two Kansas Guard Members Killed in Baghdad

Two members of the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, Kansas National Guard, Horton, Kansas died November 8 in Baghdad, Iraq when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near their convoy. Killed were:

Spc. Brian K. Baker, 27, of West Seneca, New York, died November 7 in Baghdad, Iraq, when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his security patrol. Baker was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York.


 U.S. ARMY RESERVES

Reservist Dies of Non-Combat Related Illness

Sgt. 1st Class Otie J. McVey, 53, of Oak Hill, West Virginia, was medically evacuated from Baghdad, Iraq, on September 23 for treatment of a non-combat related illness.  He died November 7 in Beaver, West Virginia.  McVey was assigned to the Army Reserve’s 706th Transportation Company, Kenton, Ohio.


 ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

CA Guard Member Dies From Injuries Received in IED Attack on Convoy

Spc. Quoc Binh Tran, 26, of Mission Viejo, California, died November 7 in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds sustained that same day when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle while he was conducting convoy operations. Tran was assigned to the Army National Guard’s 181st Support Battalion, San Bernardino, California.
