Soldier Killed by IED While Setting Up Post

Two Marines from the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, died April 30 due to hostile action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Killed were:

Cpl. Scott M. Vincent, 21, of Bokoshe, Oklahoma.  Vincent was assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

 

Cpl. Joshua S. Wilfong, 22, of Walker, West Virginia.  Wilfong was assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Two Sailors Killed in Al Anbar Province by IED

Two members of the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, based in Jacksonville, Florida died April 30 in Al Anbar Province, in Iraq when their military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device while traveling in a convoy. Killed were:

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason B. Dwelley, 31, of Apopka, Florida.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher M. Dickerson, 33, of Eastman, Georgia.

Approaching Vehicle Detonates Bomb Killing Eight Soldiers

Eight soldiers died on April 29, in Baghdad, Iraq, while part of a dismounted improvised explosive device sweep patrol, when a vehicle approached their unit and the driver detonated a bomb.  All of the soldiers were assigned to the Army's 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.  Killed were:

Spc. James L. Beckstrand, 27, of Escondido, California.

Sgt. Ryan M. Campbell, 25, of Kirksville, Missouri.

Pfc. Norman Darling, 29, of Middleboro, Massachusetts.

Staff Sgt. Jeffrey F. Dayton, 27, of Caledonia, Mississippi.

Pfc. Jeremy Ricardo Ewing, 22, of Miami Florida.

Staff Sgt. Esau G. Patterson, Jr., 25, of Ridgeland, South Carolina.

Pfc. Ryan E. Reed, 20, of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Soldier Killed While on Patrol

Sgt. Adam W. Estep, 23, of Campbell, California, died April 29, in Baghdad, Iraq, when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his patrol.  Estep was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Killed in IED Attack

Pfc. Martin W. Condor, 20, of York, Pennsylvania, died April 29, in Baqubah, Iraq, when an apparent improvised explosive device exploded near his vehicle.  Kondor was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.

Soldier Dies of Non-Combat Related Injuries

Sgt. Landis W. Garrison, 23, of Rapid City, Illinois, died April 29, in Abu Gharb, Iraq, of non-combat related injuries.  Garrison was assigned to the 333rd Military Police Company, Illinois National Guard, Freeport, Illinois.

Soldier Killed in IED Attack

Spc. Jacob R. Herring, 21, of Kirkland, Washington, died April 28, in Mosul, Iraq, from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive in Talafar, Iraq struck his vehicle.  Herring was assigned to the Army's 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.


Soldier Killed in Vehicle Incident

Staff Sgt. Kendall Thomas, 36, of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, died April 28 in Baghdad, Iraq, as the result of a vehicle accident.  Thomas was assigned to Battery C, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Soldier Killed in Baghdad Sniper Attack

Staff Sgt. Abraham D. Penamedina, 32, of Los Angeles, California, died April 27, in Baghdad, Iraq, when his patrol came under sniper fire.  Penamedina was assigned to Company B, 20th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Killed When Vehicle Falls From Bridge

Pfc. Marquis A. Whitaker, 20, of Columbus, Georgia, died April 27 in Scania, Iraq.  Whitaker's vehicle was hit from behind by a civilian truck and left hanging off the side of a bridge.  Whitaker attempted to climb out of the vehicle but fell. Whitaker was assigned to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Marine Killed in Al Anbar Province

Lance Cpl. Aaron C. Austin, 21, of Sunray, Texas, died April 26 due to hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Austin was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp Pendleton, California.


 U.S. ARMY RESERVES and ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

Army Reservist and Guard Member Killed in Baghdad

Two soldiers were killed on April 26, in Baghdad, Iraq, by a large explosion that went off while the two were performing site security.  Killed were:

Sgt. Sherwood R. Baker, 30, of Plymouth, Pennsylvania.  Baker was assigned to the Army National Guard's Company B, 2nd Battalion, 103rd Armor Regiment, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.

Sgt. Lawrence A. Roukey, 33, of Westbrook, Maine.  Roukey was assigned to the Army Reserve's Detachment 1, 3rd Battalion, 304th Regiment, 98th Division, Lewiston, Maine.

Army Guard Member Dies in Attack on Convoy

Spc. Kenneth A. Melton, 3o, of Westplains, Missouri, died April 25 in Iraq when his military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device and small arms fire while traveling in a convoy from Baghdad.  Melton was assigned to the Arkansas Army National Guard, Company B, 3rd Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, 39th Brigade Combat Team, Fordyce, Arkansas.

Four AR Guard Members Killed in a Mortar Attack

Four members of the Army National Guard's 39th Support Battalion, 39th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Hazen, Arkansas died April 24, in Taji, Iraq.  Killed were:

Capt. Arthur L. Felder, 36, of Louisville, Arkansas

Chief Warrant Patric W. Kordsmeier, 49, of North Little Rock, Arkansas

Staff Sgt. Billy J. Orton, 41 of Humnoke, Arkansas

Staff Sgt. Stacey C. Brandon, 35, of Hazen, Arkansas


Soldier Dies of Non Combat Related Injuries

Staff Sgt. Cory W. Brooks, 32 of Philip, South Dakota, died April 24, in Baghdad, Iraq, of non-combat related injuries.  Brooks was assigned to the Army National Guard's 153rd Engineer Battalion, from Wagner, South Dakota.


 U.S. NAVY

Two Sailors and One Coast Guardsman Die in Waterborne Attack

A waterborne attack in the Northern Persian Gulf killed three U.S. service personnel on April 24.

Two sailors were killed in the attack.  They were assigned to the USS Firebolt, forward deployed to Manama, Bahrain. Killed were:

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Michael J. Pernaselli, 27, of Monroe, New York

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Christopher E. Watts, 28, of Knoxville, Tennessee

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Nathan B. Bruckenthal, 24, of Smithtown, New York, was also killed in the attack on April 24.  Bruckenthal was assigned to the Tactical Law Enforcement Team South Detachment 403.

Pfc. Shawn C. Edwards, 20, of Bensenville, Illinois, died April 23, in Samarra, Iraq, when his convoy vehicle hit an improvised explosive device.  Edwards was assigned to the Army's 121st Signal Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, from Kitzingen, Germany.

Spc. Patrick D. Tillman, 27, of Chandler, Arizona, died April 22, in Afghanistan when his patrol vehicle came under attack.  Tillman was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington.

Soldier Dies from Injuries Sustained in IED Attack

Sgt. 1st Class Bradley C. Fox, 34, of Orlando, Florida, died April 20 in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries sustained on March 14 when his military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device.  Fox was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedburg, Germany.


Soldier Killed in Vehicle Incident

Pfc. Leroy Harris-Kelly, 20, of Azusa, California, died April 20, north of Tallil, Iraq, when his truck went off the road and rolled over because of limited visibility and dangerous driving conditions.  Harris-Kelly was assigned to the 596th Maintenance Company, 3rd Corps Support Command, V Corps, Darmstadt, Germany.

ME Guard Member Killed in Mosul by IED

Spc. Christopher D. Gelineau, 23, of Portland, Maine, died April 20 in Mosul, Iraq, when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device.  Gelineau was assigned to the Army National Guard's 133rd Engineer Battalion, Gardiner, Maine.

Marines Die from Injuries Sustained In Al Anbar Province

Two members of the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force at Twentynine Palms, California, died April 18, due to injuries received from enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Killed were:

Cpl. Jason L. Dunham, 22, of Allegany, New York.

Cpl. Christopher A. Gibson, 23, of Simi Valley, California.

AL Guard Member Dies in Guantanamo Bay

Master Sgt. Herbert R. Claunch, 58, of Wetumpka, Alabama died April 18, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, after collapsing on the floor in his quarters.  Claunch was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and was assigned to the Army National Guard, 217th Military Police Company, Prattville, Alabama.

Soldier Electrocuted Servicing a Generator

Spc. Marvin A. Camposiles, 25, of Austell, Georgia, died April 17, in Samarra, Iraq, when he was electrocuted while performing routine generator maintenance.  Camposiles was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.


Two 1st Cavalry Division Soldiers Killed in Separate Incidents

Two members of the 1st Cavalry Division died in Iraq on April 17 in separate incidents.  Killed were:

Staff Sgt. Edward W. Carmen, 27, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, died April 17, in Baghdad, Iraq, when the track of the tank he was in malfunctioned.  The tank driver lost control and the tank rolled off a bridge.  Carman was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 12th Armored Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Spc. Michael A. McGlothin, 21, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died April 17, in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device exploded near his patrol.  McGlothin was assigned to the Army's 115th Forward Support Battalion, Division Support Command, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Three Soldiers Killed in Dwaniyan Ambush

Three Soldiers perished in an attack on their convoy April 17.  Two of the Soldiers killed were members of the Army National Guard.  Killed was:

Sgt. Jonathan N. Hartman, 27, of Jacksonville, Florida, died April 17, in Dwaniyan, Iraq, when his convoy was ambushed.  Hartman was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany.

Also killed was a Kentucky Army Guard Member and a Louisiana Guard Member. They were:

1st Lt. Robert L. Henderson, II, 33, of Alvaton, Kentucky, died April 17, in Diwaniyah, Iraq, when his convoy tried to avoid an overturned trailer and came under small arms attack.  Henderson was assigned to the Army National Guard's Detachment 1, 2123rd Transportation Company, Owensboro, Kentucky.

Pfc. Clayton W. Henson, 20, of Stanton, Texas, died April 17, in Dwaniyan, Iraq, when his convoy was ambushed.  Henson was assigned to the Army's 1st Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Polk, Louisiana.

SD Guard Member Killed in Iskandariyah by IED

Spc. Dennis B. Morgan, 22, of Valentine, Nebraska, died April 17 in Iskandariyah, Iraq, when his armored personnel carrier hit an improvised explosive device.  Morgan was assigned to the Army National Guard's 153rd Engineer Battalion, Winer, South Dakota.

Soldier Killed by Mine While on Patrol

Sgt. Brian M. Wood, 21, of Torrance, California, died April 16, in Tikrit, Iraq, when his military vehicle pulled off the road and apparently hit a mine while on patrol.  Wood was assigned to the Army's 9th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Spc. Richard K. Trevithick, 20, of Gaines, Michigan, died April 14 in Balad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device exploded near his convoy vehicle.  Trevithick was assigned to the Army's 9th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.


Soldier Dies of Injuries Sustained in Al Anbar Province

Sgt. Christopher Ramirez, 34, of McAllen, Texas, died April 14 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, from injuries sustained during combat operations.  Ramirez was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.


Soldier Collapses During Physical Training

Spc. Frank K. Rivers, Jr., 23, of Woodbridge, Virginia, died April 14, in Mosul, Iraq, when he collapsed during physical training.  Rivers was assigned to the Army's 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington.

Cpl. Kevin T. Kolm, 23, of Hicksville, New York, died April 13 from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Kolm was assigned to 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Staff Sgt. Victor A. Rosaleslomeli, 29, of Westminster, California, died April 13 in Iraq when an improvised explosive device exploded near his escort vehicle.  Rosaleslomeli was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.

Soldier Killed in Al Anbar Province

Sgt. Major Michael B. Stack, 48, of Lake City, South Carolina, died April 11 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, while his unit was conducting combat operations.  Stack was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.


Helicopter Crew Shot Down in Baghdad

Two soldiers died April 11 in Baghdad, Iraq when their helicopter was shot down.  Both solders were assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.  Killed were:

Chief Warrant Officer Wesley C. Fortenberry, 38, of Woodville, Texas.

Chief Warrant Officer Lawrence S. Colton, 32, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

NY Guard Member Killed in Samarra

Pfc. Nathan P. Brown, 21, of South Glens Falls, New York, died April 11 in Samarra, Iraq, when his patrol was ambushed.  Brown was assigned to the Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry, 1st Armored Division, Glens Falls, New York.

Marine Killed in Anbar Province Hostilities

Lance Cpl. John T. Sims, Jr., 21, of Alexander City, Alabama, died April 10 from hostile fire in Anbar Province, Iraq.  Sims was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Two 1st Cavalry Division Soldiers Killed in Baghdad

Two members of the 1st Cavalry Division died April 10 in separate incidents in Baghdad.  Killed were:

Spc. Adolfo C. Carballo, 20, of Houston, Texas, died April 10 in Baghdad, Iraq, when shrapnel struck him.  Carballo was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 21st Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

 

Spc. Justin W. Johnson, 22, of Rome, Georgia, died April 10 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his patrol vehicle hit an improvised explosive device.  Johnson was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


Soldier Killed in Explosion in Baqubah

Sgt. William C. Eckhart, 25, of Rocksprings, Texas, died April 10, in Baqubah, Iraq when he was on an anti-mortar mission and there was an explosion of unknown origin.  Eckhart was assigned to the Army's 4th Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.


Airman Dies in Attack on Balad Air Field

Airman 1st Class Antoine J. Holt, 20, of Kennesaw, Georgia, died April 10 as a result of injuries sustained when his tent was hit by a mortar round at Balad Air Field, Iraq.  Holt was assigned to the 603rd Air Control Squadron, Aviano Air Base in Italy.

Hostile Fire Claims Five Marines in Iraq

Five Marines were killed April 9 in Iraq.  One of the Marine's killed was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  The other four Marines were members of the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. Killed were:

 

Pfc. Eric A. Ayon, 26, of Arleta, California, died April 9 from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Ayon was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

 

Cpl. Matthew E. Matula, 20, of Spicewood, Texas, died April 9 from hostile fire in Iraq.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Pfc. Chance R. Phelps, 19, of Clifton, Colorado, died April 9 from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Phelps was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

 

Cpl. Michael R. Speer, 24, of Davenport, Iowa, died April 9 from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Lance Cpl. Elias Torrez III, 21, of Veribest, Texas, died April 9 from hostile fire in Iraq.  He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Soldiers Killed in Multiple Baghdad Attacks

Four soldiers died in Baghdad April 9 in multiples attacks., including two members of the 1st Infantry Division.  Killed were:

Spc. Jonathan R. Kephart, 21, of Oil City, Pennsylvania, died April 9, in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained when his patrol was ambushed near Baghdad on April 8.  Kephart was assigned to the Army's 230th Military Police Company, from Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Staff Sgt. Don S. McMahan, 31, of Nashville, Tennessee, died April 9 in Baghdad, Iraq, when individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire attacked his convoy.  McMahan was assigned to the 1st Battalion, A 94th Field Artillery, 1st Armored Division, in Baumholder, Germany.

Two members of the Army's 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in Schweinfurt, Germany died April 9 in separate incidents involving rocket-propelled grenade attacks. Killed were:

Spc. Peter G. Enos, 24, of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, died April 9 in Bayji, Iraq, when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his patrol vehicle.

Staff Sgt. Toby W. Mallett, 26, of Kaplan, Louisiana, died April 9 in Baghdad, Iraq when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his patrol vehicle.


Soldier Killed in Grenade Attack in Barez

Spc. Allen J. Vandayburg, 20, of Mansfield, Ohio, died April 9, in Barez, Iraq when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle.  Vandayburg was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.


Soldier Killed in Bayji While on Patrol

Staff Sgt. Raymond E. Jones, Jr., 31, of Gainesville, Florida, died April 9, in Bayji, Iraq, when a rocket-propelled grenade struck him while on patrol.  Jones was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Soldier Killed in Attack on Convoy

Pfc. Gregory R. Goodrich, 37, of Bartonville, Illinois, died April 9 in Iraq when his convoy came under attack by individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire.  Goodrich was assigned to the Army Reserve's 724th Transportation Company, Bartonville, Illinois.


Remains of Soldier Listed as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown are Identified April 23

Sgt. Elmer C. Krause, 40, of Greensboro, North Carolina, had been unaccounted for since April 9, in Iraq, when his convoy came under attack by individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire.  On April 23, his remains were identified.  Krause was assigned to the Army Reserve's 724th Transportation Company, Bartonville, Illinois.

Two Guard Members Killed in Baghdad Attacks

Sgt. Felix M. Delgreco, 22, of Simsbury, Connecticut, died April 9, in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive devise and small arms fire struck his mounted patrol.  Delgreco was assigned the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry, New Haven, Connecticut.

Spc. Michelle M. Witmer, 20, of New Berlin, Wisconsin, died April 9 in Baghdad, Iraq, after being attacked with an improvised explosive device and small arms.  Witmer was assigned to the Army National Guard's 32nd Military Police Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Witmer is the first Wisconsin National Guard Soldier killed in action since World War II, and the first female soldier killed in action in the history of the National Guard.  She joined the WI-ARNG in January 2002 and was a student at UW-Milwaukee.  At Ease, the official magazine of the Wisconsin National Guard reported that Witmer often spent time at an orphanage in Baghdad. Her two sisters were also serving in Iraq at the time of her death.  Michelle's older sister Rachel, 24, was also a member of the 32nd MP Company.  Both were deployed to Iraq in May 2003.  Witmer's twin, Charity, deployed to Iraq in February 2004, and was a member of Company B, 118th Medical Battalion at the time of Michelle's death.

Seven Marines Killed by Hostile Fire in Al Anbar Province

Seven Marines were killed in Al Anbar Province on April 8.  All the Marines were members of the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, in California.  Killed were:

Cpl. Nicholas J. Dieruf, 21, of Versailles, Kentucky, died April 8 due to injuries received from enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  He was assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Lance Cpl. Phillip E. Frank, 20, of Elk Grove, Illinois, died April 8 from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  Frank was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

 

Lance Cpl. Christopher B. Wasser, 21, of Ottawa, Kansas, died April 8 due to injuries received from enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California.

Capt. Brent L. Morel, 27, of Martin, Tennessee, died April 7 from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  He was assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Pfc. Christopher D. Mabry, 19, of Chunky, Mississippi, died April 7 due to injuries received from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Soldier Dies from Injuries Sustain in IED Attack

Spc. Tyanna S. Avery-Felder, 22, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, died April 7, in Balad, Iraq, of injuries sustained on April 4 in Mosul when her convoy vehicle was hit with an improvised explosive device.  Felders was assigned to the Army's 296th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington.


Soldier's Vehicle Hit by Rocket Propelled Grenade

Staff Sgt. George S. Rentschler, 31, of Louisville, Kentucky, died, April 7, in Baghdad, Iraq, when his military vehicle was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade.  Rentschler was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.


Soldier Killed While on Traffic Control Duty

Sgt. 1st Class Marvin L. Miller, 38, of Dunn, North Carolina, died April 7, in Balad, Iraq, when he was shot while on traffic control duty.  Miller was assigned to the Army's 1st Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Guard Member Killed in Baghdad Attack

Sgt. 1st Class William W. Labadie, Jr., 45, of Bauxite, Arkansas, died April 7, in Baghdad, Iraq, when his camp was attacked by individuals using rockets and small arms fire.  Labadie was assigned to the Army National Guard's Troop E, 151st Cavalry Squadron, 39th Infantry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, from Marianna, Arkansas.

Sgt. Gerardo Moreno, 23, of Terrell, Texas, died April 6, in Ashula, Iraq, when individuals fired a rocket-propelled-grenade at his unit.  Moreno was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Fernando A. Mendezaceves, 27 of Ponce, Puerto Rico, was killed April 6 in Iraq while conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar Province.  Mendezaceves was assigned to the Naval Medical Center San Diego, First Marine Division Detachment, San Diego.
