Senior Management's Perspective:

Kevin Mather
Executive Vice President and CFO
Seattle Mariners
"The
Seattle Mariners is committed to
Diversity within our entire
organization. We continuously reach
out to MWBE participation in our
procurement process to seek high
quality MWBE’s as our suppliers. We
have developed and sustained many
excellent MWBE relationships through
our Diverse Business Partners
Program, and look forward to
building more in the future. Our
commitment starts with top
management, and continues throughout
the entire organization, with our
centralized Procurement Department
responsible for sourcing most all of
our products and services for the
club’s use. One of our successful
diversity suppliers is our recipient
of the First Annual Jackie
Robinson Award in 2009, Branded
Solutions by Edgar Martinez, headed
by our club’s previous designated
hitter, Edgar Martinez, who retired
from playing on-field baseball in
2004."

The DBP
Program Administrator's
Perspective:

Sandy Fielder
Director of Procurement
Seattle Mariners
"As
Program Administrator for the
Seattle Mariners DBP Program, I am
one of many supporters within this
organization whose passion is to
seek out those MWBE companies who
stand out amongst others in adding
value to our procurement process.
We have selected
Branded Solutions by Edgar Martinez
to receive our club’s
recognition for 2009. They are a
high
quality
promotional products
company whom we have worked with for
the last two years. They have
produced several give away
promotional products for our fans
and continue to respond to our needs
in a professional, timely manner
while providing excellent service,
high quality merchandise and
competitive pricing."

Business Diversity and the Seattle

Seattle Mariners
Diverse Business
Partners Program
|
|
The Seattle Mariners organization is committed to Supplier
Diversity. Our ball club actively seeks
opportunities to create, build and increase
utilization of highly qualified minority and
women-owned businesses to reflect and match the same
diverse cultural and economic fan base and that of
our on field ball player diversity.
We work with Major League Baseball’s Diverse
Business Partners Program and actively participate
with the Northwest Minority Supplier Development
Council as members, participants in trade shows,
seminars, and in support of all council activities
since 1998. As a member of these organizations, the
Mariners work towards goals of creating and
increasing procurement opportunities for highly
qualified certified minority and woman owned
businesses to work as one of our suppliers thereby
enabling us to create an maintain opportunities for
MWBE in our community. We have successfully
established numerous supplier partnerships, which
allows us to grow in diversity while increasing our
minority presence and develop a potential new fan
base.
Through active participation in our local minority
council, we can meet with prospective new
businesses, both in formal and informal settings.
We have conducted training classes at Safeco Field
for suppliers and corporate entities, held “Meet the
Buyer” seminars to gather both the corporate world
and minority businesses together for seminars, and
conducted the first Hispanic Day at the ballpark,
featuring Hispanic businesses in our community. I
have served on the Board of Directors for the
Northwest Minority Business Council for 3 years as
well as volunteering to chair various council
projects over the last 11 years.
My buying staff takes an active part in utilizing
MWBE suppliers providing high quality goods and
services, and actively searching for new MWBE
suppliers. |
