Senior Management's Perspective:

Frank Coonelly

President

Pittsburgh Pirates

"The Pittsburgh Pirates are committed to diversity in the marketplace and the workplace.  We proactively reach out to MWBEs within the Pittsburgh region to include them in our overall vendor program.  We are proud of the relationships that have developed through our Diverse Business Partners Program and look forward to building on that success in the future."

DBP Program Administrative Team
The DBP Program Team's Perspective:

The Pirates Diverse Business Partners Program searches for suppliers like CPI Creative, which bring a competitive edge. Carol Philp, President of CPI Creative, practices what she believes in “there really are some things in life that remain the same. The values that are found at the core of a winning team, from B2B teams to sports teams, it’s all about trust and dedicated teamwork.

More about

CPI Creative

CPI Creative is a full service marketing and promotional advertising agency committed to providing creative and innovative solutions that grow a business’s brand. Within the value of quality and excellent service they continue to demonstrate their creativity and innovative designs favorably throughout our industry.  Through the Pirates organization and MLB’s Diverse Business Partners Program they were provided the opportunity to design and manufacture the Inaugural 2006 World Baseball Classic souvenir cup, which reflected the tone of this global event with "Baseball spoken here" graphically decorating the cups in seven different languages.

Also as part of the diversity vendor team for the 2006 All-Star Game at PNC Park, CPI Creative was awarded the contract to supply the leather-trimmed duffle bag as the gift for the Client Batting Practice. As a result of these successes more opportunities have been initiated.  The Pirates relationship with CPI Creative has evolved from small special promotional item orders to full game day promotional orders and promotional items for the successful ladies program nights, Lady Bucs. The Pirates Lady Bucs Club is a 12-month experience, where ladies from all diverse backgrounds come and enjoy the fun and activities of a ladies night out even when the baseball season comes to an end. CPI Creative answers our needs and provides unsolicited solutions, a true mark of a valued supplier.

Pittsburgh Pirates

 Diverse Business Partners Program

The Pirates believe in creating opportunities on and off the field, in our workplace and among our suppliers.  Having a diverse supplier base adds value to the procurement process and provides the Pirates with a broader selection of competitively priced goods and services. We seek suppliers who demonstrate the interest, desire, commitment and proven results to help make our business and theirs a success.

Strengthening the minority business community economically contributes to its overall economic growth.  By forming partnerships with minority-owned, women-owned and disabled-owned suppliers, we believe the Pirates are contributing to their growth and development while assisting them in fulfilling our expectations for quality, on-time delivery and competitively priced goods and services.

The Pirates purchasing policies are based on standard business practices with quality suppliers chosen for their ability to meet the Pirates needs and requirements, competitively.

Working to strengthen a diverse supplier’s base has a positive effect on the Pittsburgh Pirates, those with whom we do business, and the communities that we serve.  It’s a win-win situation for all.  Together, we are continuing to build for a successful future.

The Pittsburgh Pirates support minority-owned, women-owned and disabled-owned suppliers by participating in business networking exchanges, seminars, special events, local and national trade fairs, and by making direct and in-kind contributions to MWDBE programs.

The Pirates Diverse Business Partners Program was established to carry the ballclub’s commitment to achieve diversity in our supplier base and to promote MWDBE economic development.  The Pirates purchase a variety of goods and services to support our operations and administrative functions. While the Pirates may not have immediate opportunities for many goods and/or services, we still are interested in those MWBEs who are interested in soliciting their services for future opportunities as they arise. We seek diverse suppliers that can provide quality cost-competitive goods and/or services in the following areas:
