The Chicago White
Sox are pleased to be the first organization to
recognize outstanding performances by diverse
suppliers through the America's Best Diverse Suppliers Program. We are extremely proud of all
of our suppliers and we thank them for their
enormous contributions to our success. However, we
welcome this opportunity to have the
spotlight shine on ten of our most cherished
relationships with diverse suppliers.
Our Supplier Selection
Process
Our commitment to
diversity, both on and off the field, begins
with our chairman, Jerry Reinsdorf, who serves
as chairman of the Owners Committee on
Diversity for Major League Baseball. Mr. Reinsdorf supports the
efforts of the Commissioner of Baseball, Bud Selig, to see that
the improvements that came
when Jackie Robinson joined the Major
Leagues in 1947 extend to every aspect of our sport.
When we were
invited to
select our best diverse suppliers for
recognition as America's Best Diverse Suppliers,
the purchasing department looked to the
standards set by our chairman. Mr. Reinsdorf believes in giving promising players
the opportunity to excel. So, finding
diverse suppliers that rose to meet extraordinary
opportunities and challenges in 2005 became the
first criteria in our selection process.
Next, we considered the fact that Mr. Reinsdorf, Kenny
Williams
and Ozzie
Guillen
will give
a promising rookie the same chance to pitch in a
World Series game as a seasoned player, so we
decided that the size and tenure of a supplier would not be factors in our selection process.
As was the case with our 2005 pitching staff, we
decided to be all inclusive.
Finally we thought
about the fact that the White Sox keep a keen
eye on the bottom-line, so we decided to give
special consideration to those suppliers that
really sharpened their pencils to give us the
best price while maintaining high service
standards.
With these three
considerations in mind, we set out to select
companies that would represent what was most
important to the White Sox organization in 2005.
We came up with ten, but really had twelve in
mind. All of the companies we selected for
the America's Best Diverse Suppliers Award are
minority-owned, and to our delight, they reflect
the diversity of our players as well. The companies
selected for recognition as our best diverse
suppliers in 2005 are owned by African Americans,
Hispanic Americans and an Asian American.
One of the companies is co-owned by a minority
women and another is owned by an extraordinary
husband and wife team. These women reflect
the growing contributions women
entrepreneurs are making to our organization and
sport.
We are delighted
to give such public recognition to our suppliers
because we believe they earned it. They
engaged in championship level performances during the 2005
season, and we, in turn, would
like to see them have the opportunity to grow in
size and capability with other procuring organizations.
Our dreams were
fully realized when we won the 2005 World
Series. We could not have reached the top
of our game without the support of our great suppliers.
We hope you take the time to learn about their
contributions. We are proud to recognize all ten
suppliers as America's Best Diverse Suppliers.
